Round 23 of the Premier World League 2026 season delivered another dramatic set of results in Group B. With 23 of the 62 games now completed, teams are beginning to establish themselves in the playoff race, the World Cup of Clubs places, and the battle to avoid the lower competitions.
The top 16 positions qualify for the playoffs, with the top four earning World Cup of Clubs qualification. Teams finishing 17th–22nd qualify for the Friendly Cup, 23rd–26th qualify for the King's Cup, while the bottom two positions are relegation spots.
🔥 Boca Juniors Stay on Top
League leaders Boca Juniors continued their excellent campaign with a 3–2 victory over Olimpia. Boca entered the match ranked 1st and once again showed their ability to grind out important victories.
Olimpia, sitting 27th and therefore outside the King's Cup places and in the wider relegation battle, pushed Boca hard, but the league leaders collected another three points.
🚨 River Plate Suffer a Major Setback
One of the biggest surprises of the round came in Buenos Aires, where Flamengo defeated 2nd-place River Plate 2–1.
River had entered the match in one of the four coveted World Cup of Clubs positions, but Flamengo's victory gives the Brazilian side a massive boost after entering the match in 14th.
For River, it is a missed opportunity to keep pressure on Boca at the top.
💥 Cerro Porteño Destroy Tigres
The most spectacular scoreline of Round 23 came from Cerro Porteño, who demolished Tigres 8–0.
Cerro entered the match in 20th place, within the Friendly Cup zone, while Tigres were 32nd and occupying the bottom position. The eight-goal victory could prove extremely important for Cerro's goal difference as they attempt to break into the playoff places.
For Tigres, however, the situation is becoming extremely serious. Sitting at the bottom of the table with another heavy defeat, they remain firmly in a relegation position.
🏆 Melgar Continue Their Excellent Form
Melgar produced another entertaining victory, defeating Santos Laguna 4–3.
Melgar entered Round 23 in 5th place, just outside the World Cup of Clubs positions. The three points keep them firmly involved in the battle for the top four.
With only four teams qualifying for the World Cup of Clubs, every victory is becoming increasingly valuable for Melgar.
⚔️ Busan Make a Statement
Fourth-place Busan I'Park delivered one of the round's biggest results by defeating 9th-place Querétaro 4–1.
Busan entered the match already occupying the final World Cup of Clubs position, and the emphatic victory strengthens their claim to remain among the elite four.
Querétaro, meanwhile, remains inside the playoff zone despite the heavy defeat.
🔵 Miami FC Keep Their Playoff Push Alive
Miami FC defeated Caroni 3–2 in another important result for the playoff race.
Miami entered the round in 8th place, comfortably inside the top 16. Caroni, ranked 21st, were looking for points to improve their position in the Friendly Cup zone, but Miami held on for all three points.
🟢 New England Revolution Cruise to Victory
New England Revolution, ranked 7th, enjoyed a comfortable 4–1 victory over Maritimo.
The result keeps New England firmly inside the playoff positions and gives them another valuable three points toward their pursuit of the top four.
Maritimo entered the match in 30th and remains dangerously close to the relegation battle.
🔴 Inter Miami Defeat Fiorentina
Inter Miami continued their strong campaign with a 4–2 victory over Fiorentina.
Inter Miami entered the match in 6th place, meaning they remain just outside the World Cup of Clubs positions. Fiorentina, meanwhile, were 17th and therefore sitting just outside the playoff places.
The victory gives Inter Miami another important boost as they chase the top four.
⚽ Other Important Results
Chicago Fire, ranked 16th, defeated Puebla 2–1, giving Chicago an important victory in the final playoff position. With the playoff line beginning at 16th, every point is crucial for Chicago.
Sociedad pulled off an impressive 2–1 away victory over Emelec. Emelec entered the match in 13th, while Sociedad were 31st, making the result a major upset in the lower-table battle.
Columbus Crew also earned an important victory, defeating South China 3–2. Columbus entered the round in 10th and remains safely inside the playoff places.
Internacional defeated Houston Dynamo 3–2 in another competitive match between teams around the middle of the standings.
Meanwhile, Yokohama F. Marinos and Union Huaral played to a 2–2 draw, a result that gives both sides a point but leaves neither making a major move toward the playoff positions.
Kawasaki Frontale suffered one of the round's other major disappointments, losing 6–1 to Millonarios.

The top four remain the most important positions in Group B.

Chicago Fire's 2–1 win over Puebla is particularly significant because Chicago entered the round in 16th, right on the playoff cutoff.
Teams such as Miami FC, New England Revolution, Columbus Crew and Querétaro are all competing from within the playoff zone, while Melgar and Inter Miami are trying to move closer to the top four.
The biggest threats from outside the playoff zone include teams such as Cerro Porteño, who could make a serious move after their extraordinary 8–0 victory.
🟡 Friendly Cup Battle
Positions 17–22 qualify for the Friendly Cup.
Several teams in this area had mixed fortunes. Flamengo's victory over River Plate was particularly valuable because they entered the round in 14th and are therefore trying to consolidate their playoff position rather than remain vulnerable to the teams immediately below them.
Cerro Porteño, entering the round in 20th, now has significant momentum after the 8–0 victory.
Union Huaral, ranked 22nd, collected a point against Yokohama F. Marinos and remains in the Friendly Cup zone.
🚨 King's Cup and Relegation Battle
Positions 23–26 qualify for the King's Cup, while the bottom two teams are relegated.
Kawasaki Frontale entered the round in 24th but suffered a disastrous 6–1 defeat to Millonarios. Their position in the King's Cup zone remains under pressure.
Millonarios, meanwhile, entered 26th and picked up a huge three points.
At the bottom, Tigres remain in 32nd after their 8–0 defeat to Cerro Porteño. The result makes their fight for survival even more difficult.
Maritimo, entering the round in 30th, also suffered a defeat, losing 4–1 to New England Revolution. The bottom of Group B is becoming increasingly dangerous as teams desperately try to escape the relegation positions.

After Round 23, the Group B picture is becoming increasingly competitive. Boca Juniors remain the team to beat, while River Plate, Gamba Osaka and Busan I'Park are fighting to remain among the four World Cup of Clubs qualifiers.
