Round 21 of the Premier World League Season 2026 produced another dramatic set of results, with the top of the table undergoing a significant shake-up. With 21 of 62 rounds completed and 41 rounds remaining, the race for the top 16 playoff places is becoming increasingly competitive.
The qualification picture remains:

👑 Gamba Osaka Take Over at the Top
Gamba Osaka are the new leaders of Group B! After entering the round in 2nd, Gamba demolished Flamengo 4–0 at Suta City Football Stadium.
It was a spectacular continuation of Gamba's form. They entered Round 21 with five consecutive wins, and another clean-sheet victory puts them at the summit. Their rise to 1st place is one of the biggest stories of the round.
Meanwhile, Flamengo remain 12th, meaning they are still safely inside the playoff zone despite the heavy defeat.
🔥 Boca Juniors Move Into Second
Boca Juniors continued their excellent campaign with a 2–1 victory over Santos Laguna at La Bombonera.
The victory moves Boca into 2nd place, giving them a World Cup of Clubs position. Their recent form is also excellent, with four wins in their last five matches.
Santos Laguna, meanwhile, fall further behind the playoff contenders and remain in 16th, occupying the final playoff position.
⚠️ Busan Lose Their Grip on First
The biggest setback among the leaders came for Busan Ipark FC.
The Round 20 leaders suffered a 2–1 defeat to Caroni, despite Caroni being down in 23rd place. Busan entered the match with five straight victories, but the surprise loss costs them the leadership.
They now sit 3rd, still comfortably inside the World Cup of Clubs positions, but the defeat shows just how quickly the top of the table can change.
🇦🇷 River Plate Stay in the Top Four
River Plate strengthened their World Cup of Clubs position by defeating Tigres 3–2.
River remain 4th, keeping the final World Cup of Clubs place. The win was particularly important because Tigres are down in 31st, meaning River avoided a potentially costly upset.
The top four after Round 21 are therefore:

🌎 Playoff Race: Places 5–16
The playoff race remains extremely tight behind the World Cup places.
New England Revolution, currently 5th, were unable to extend their winning streak but still earned a point in a 2–2 draw with Zamalek. New England entered with five straight wins, so dropping points is disappointing, but they remain in a strong playoff position.
Melgar continued their remarkable form with a convincing 4–1 victory over Sociedad. Ranked 6th, Melgar entered with five consecutive victories and now look like one of the strongest teams in the entire league.
Miami FC, sitting 8th, produced one of the biggest attacking performances of the round, defeating Olimpia 4–2. Miami's victory strengthens their hold on a playoff place.
Emelec, ranked 11th, played out a thrilling 3–3 draw with Union Huaral. The point keeps Emelec inside the playoff positions, although they missed a chance to create more separation from the teams below.
Atlético Nacional, ranked 14th, earned a valuable 3–2 victory over Columbus Crew. With the playoff cutoff at 16th, those three points could prove extremely important later in the season.
Inter Miami, ranked 7th, also had an excellent round, beating South China 3–1 away from home. Their recent form of four wins and a draw is among the best in the league.
📈 Houston Dynamo Take a Hit
Houston Dynamo, who were sitting 13th, suffered a 2–1 defeat to Querétaro.
Querétaro are ranked 10th, so this was a significant battle between playoff contenders. Houston remain inside the top 16 but now have less room for error.
🟢 Friendly Cup Race
The teams ranked 17th–22nd currently occupy the Friendly Cup places.
International, sitting 18th, picked up an important 2–1 victory over ACF Fiorentina. That result gives International a valuable three points in the battle to stay away from the King's Cup zone.
Chicago Fire, ranked 19th, also won, defeating Maritimo 3–2. Chicago's victory is especially important because it keeps them close to the playoff race.
Fiorentina, however, remain in trouble after another defeat and continue to sit outside the playoff positions.
🟡 King's Cup Battle
The King's Cup positions are 23rd–26th, making this part of the table particularly important.
Cerro Porteño, ranked 24th, produced a crucial 3–2 victory over Puebla. Cerro came into the match with only one win in their previous five, so the three points could provide a major boost.
Caroni, ranked 23rd, delivered the biggest upset of the round by defeating Busan Ipark 2–1. The victory gives Caroni an enormous three points against one of the league's top teams.
🔴 Relegation Trouble
At the bottom of the table, Maritimo are ranked 32nd, placing them in one of the two relegation spots. Their 3–2 loss to Chicago Fire means they continue to struggle badly.
Tigres, ranked 31st, also suffered a defeat, falling 3–2 to River Plate. Both teams therefore remain in immediate danger with 41 rounds still to play.

The biggest winners of the round were undoubtedly Gamba Osaka, who not only won 4–0 but also moved into 1st place. Boca Juniors moved into second, while Melgar, Miami FC, Inter Miami, Atlético Nacional, Chicago Fire, International and Caroni all collected important victories.

After 21 rounds, the World Cup of Clubs race has completely changed at the top. Gamba Osaka have taken over first place, Boca Juniors have climbed to second, and Busan Ipark have fallen from first to third. River Plate remain fourth and complete the current World Cup quartet.
Behind them, New England Revolution and Melgar are leading the playoff pack, while the fight around 16th place is becoming increasingly tense.
The bottom is just as dramatic. Tigres and Maritimo occupy the two relegation positions, while the teams around 23rd–30th are fighting desperately to avoid being dragged into the danger zone.
With 41 rounds still remaining, nothing is settled—but Round 21 has made one thing clear: the Premier World League playoff race is wide open.
