🏆 League III — Group A, Round 12 Recap
Round 12 is in the books, and Group A is becoming increasingly unpredictable. Several teams in or around the promotion/playoff race dropped points, while a couple of major upsets shook up the picture.
With 12 of 50 rounds completed, there are still 38 rounds to go, so the table remains very much up for grabs.
🔥 Match of the Round: Pirata FC shock Atlético Ottawa
Pirata FC 3–2 Atlético Ottawa
1st vs 18th
This is the biggest upset of Round 12.
Pirata came into the match listed 1st, while Atlético Ottawa were down in 18th, yet Ottawa couldn't capitalize on their huge difference in position.
Pirata scored three times to take a valuable 3–2 victory, reinforcing their position at the very top of the competition.
For Ottawa, it's another difficult result in what has been a challenging start to the campaign.

A significant result at the sharp end of the table.
Toronto entered the match in 3rd, putting them in the promotion-playoff zone, but could only manage a draw against 6th-placed Audax.

For Audax, however, taking a point against a top-three opponent is a useful result and keeps them firmly involved in the playoff battle.
🚨 Dynamo Moscow defeat Excelsior

Another surprise result involving two teams from the lower portion of the table.
Excelsior took all three points in a five-goal thriller, winning 3–2 away from home.
It is particularly noteworthy given that Excelsior had already pulled off a major upset against FC Akron in Round 11. They now have back-to-back victories over considerably higher-ranked opposition.

12th vs 22nd
After suffering a 3–2 defeat to Excelsior in Round 11, Akron responded immediately.
A 2–1 victory gives Akron three important points and gets their campaign back on track.
They remain outside the top-nine playoff positions, but results like this could help them close that gap over the next few rounds.
🇸🇳 ASCE La Linguère beat Casa Sports
ASCE La Linguère 2–3 Casa Sports
21st vs 23rd
Casa Sports continue their impressive recent run.
After defeating 4th-ranked AS Dakar in Round 11, Casa followed it up with another victory, this time beating La Linguère 3–2.
That's a remarkable six points from two matches for a team sitting deep in the standings.
Casa may not be anywhere near the playoff places yet, but they are clearly capable of causing problems for much higher-ranked sides.
🛡️ Defence Force hold AS Dakar
Defence Force 2–2 AS Dakar
14th vs 4th
Another costly result for a team chasing the playoffs.
Dakar, sitting 4th, could only draw with 14th-placed Defence Force.
After their Round 11 defeat to Casa Sports, Dakar have now dropped five points in two rounds.
That's exactly the kind of mini-slump that can turn a comfortable playoff position into a much more complicated situation.
🇲🇦 Raja continue their challenge
Raja 2–1 Deportes Iquique
8th vs 5th
A very important result in the playoff race.
Raja, occupying 8th, defeated 5th-placed Iquique 2–1.
Both sides are competing for positions inside the 2nd–9th playoff zone, so this was effectively a six-pointer.
Raja take the three points and strengthen their position, while Iquique lose ground.
🇨🇱 Palestino beat Coquimbo
Coquimbo Unido 1–2 Club Deportivo Palestino
9th vs 19th
Coquimbo were sitting 9th, meaning they occupied the final playoff position going into the match.
But 19th-placed Palestino came away with a 2–1 victory.
That's a particularly painful defeat for Coquimbo because dropping points at home to a team deep in the standings could have consequences in such a tightly packed playoff race.
🔴 Cobresal and Chaco share the points

10th vs 7th
What a game.
Six goals and neither team could separate itself.
Chaco, sitting 7th, were looking to maintain their playoff position, while Cobresal were hovering just outside the top nine.
The 3–3 draw gives both teams a point, but Cobresal will probably view it as an opportunity missed to break into the playoff places.
🟢 Viking keep winning

2nd vs 24th
Viking continue to be one of the major stories of the season.
The team that occupied 1st place in the previous round has now won another match, defeating 24th-placed Shandong 3–2.
It wasn't easy—the bottom-ranked side pushed them all the way—but Viking got the job done.
Given that only 1st place receives automatic promotion, Viking's ability to keep collecting three points is extremely important.
🇨🇳 Guangzhou defeat Köln
FC Köln 2–3 Guangzhou Evergrande
13th vs 11th
Guangzhou grabbed a valuable away victory in another five-goal contest.
At 11th, they are currently just outside the Friendly Cup position and King's Cup positions, so these three points could become important as they attempt to move upward.
🇩🇪 Union Berlin win the battle of Germany
FC Union Berlin 2–1 RB Leipzig
25th vs 16th
Another upset from the bottom half.
Union Berlin defeated Leipzig 2–1, despite entering the match 25th against 16th.
It is an important morale-boosting result for Union and another reminder that there are no guaranteed points in Group A.

Pirata are now listed 1st in the Round 12 fixture data, while Viking are listed 2nd. Toronto are 3rd.
That's an extremely important development because Viking had been sitting top in Round 11. The battle for that single automatic-promotion position is already becoming intense.

Cobresal are currently listed 10th and remain right on the edge of the playoff places.
Their 3–3 draw with Chaco wasn't enough to push them into the top nine, but they're only one position away from the promotion playoffs.
👑 11th–12th — King's Cup
Guangzhou Evergrande (11th) and FC Akron (12th) both won.
That's particularly significant because both teams are now looking upward rather than simply defending their cup positions.

The biggest storyline is that the promotion race is far from settled.
Viking's continued winning form, Pirata's rise to the top, and Toronto remaining firmly among the leaders are setting up a fascinating three-way battle for automatic promotion. Behind them, places 4–12 are packed with teams capable of moving into the playoff zone.
And don't forget: 38 rounds remain.
There is no relegation, so teams at the bottom can afford to play aggressively and take risks. We've already seen the benefit of that approach with Casa Sports, Excelsior and Union Berlin all producing results against significantly higher-ranked opponents.
