🔥 Numancia Stuns the League Leaders

The biggest upset of the round came at Nuevo Estadio Los Pajaritos, where C.D. Numancia defeated Red Star Belgrade 3–2.

The match sheet had Red Star sitting 1st, while Numancia entered in 13th. That makes this a massive result for Numancia.

Red Star had an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top of Group C, but instead they leave the round empty-handed. Numancia, meanwhile, collect three extremely valuable points and can use the victory as a springboard toward the top nine.

For a team sitting outside the promotion playoff positions, defeating the No. 1-ranked club is exactly the type of result that can change the direction of a season.

🇷🇸 Partizan Produces Another Major Upset

FK Partizan defeated Braga 3–2 in another impressive result.

Braga were listed 26th, while Partizan entered the match in 8th, so this was actually a victory for the higher-ranked side despite Braga having home advantage.

Partizan's three points are especially important because they came against a club sitting at the bottom of the displayed rankings. These are matches that playoff contenders need to win.

Partizan currently look like a club that could be a serious factor in the 2nd–9th promotion playoff race.

🇨🇷 Alajuelense Lights Up the Scoreboard

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense produced the biggest winning margin of the round, defeating Shamrock Rovers 4–2.

The Costa Rican side put together an excellent attacking performance, scoring four times against a Shamrock Rovers team that managed two goals of its own.

Six goals made this one of the most entertaining matches of the round, and the three points could prove valuable as Alajuelense tries to climb toward the promotion places.

🇩🇪 Frankfurt Survives in Québec

Eintracht Frankfurt defeated FC Supra du Québec 3–2 in a five-goal contest at Centre Sportif Bois-de-Boulogne.

Frankfurt entered the match ranked 18th, while Supra du Québec were 25th, making this a crucial opportunity for both clubs to gain ground.

Frankfurt ultimately took advantage, but they had to work for the victory. The three points give the German side an important boost as they attempt to climb toward the top nine.

🇵🇱 Górnik Zabrze Wins in Canada

Another Polish club came away with a valuable road victory as Górnik Zabrze defeated HFX Wanderers FC 3–2.

HFX entered the match ranked 6th, putting them firmly inside the promotion playoff zone, while Górnik were listed 7th.

That makes this a particularly important result in the early standings. Górnik not only took three points, but also defeated another club competing directly for one of those precious top-nine places.

🇺🇦 Arsenal Kyiv Wins a Thriller

FC Arsenal Kyiv defeated Tuzos UAZ 3–2 in another five-goal battle.

Tuzos UAZ were listed 25th, while Arsenal Kyiv were 15th, so the Ukrainian club took advantage of a match they needed to win if they want to move up the table.

The three points could be particularly important later in the season when teams are separated by only a few points.

🤝 Four Draws Keep the Table Tight

Round 2 featured four draws, and several were highly competitive.

Lech Poznań 2–2 Hoffenheim

Lech Poznań and Hoffenheim opened the round with a 2–2 draw. Lech were listed 14th, while Hoffenheim were 2nd, meaning the German side dropped points against a team outside the playoff positions.

Wanderers 1–1 Cracovia

Wanderers Downstream and KS Cracovia couldn't be separated, finishing 1–1.

Cracovia entered the game ranked 9th, right on the edge of the promotion playoff group.

Ensenada 3–3 Kramatorsk

The most dramatic draw came from Mexico, where Ensenada F.C. and FC Kramatorsk played to a 3–3 thriller.

Six goals were scored, but neither team could find the decisive seventh.

Tecos 2–2 Bukovyna

Tecos FC and FSC Bukovyna Chernivtsi also shared four goals, finishing 2–2.

🇫🇷 Lyon and Marseille Both Held

It was a frustrating round for two of France's biggest clubs.

Olympique Lyonnais drew 2–2 with FK Vojvodina, while Olympique de Marseille were held to a 1–1 draw by Bohemians.

Lyon entered the match ranked 3rd, with Vojvodina ranked 3rd as well according to the match sheet's displayed positions. Neither side could gain an advantage in a result that keeps the early race tightly packed.

Marseille, meanwhile, could only manage one goal against Bohemians.

☘️ Drogheda Takes Three Points

Drogheda United defeated C.D. Barrio México 3–2 in another close contest.

Barrio México were ranked 12th, while Drogheda were 23rd, making this an important opportunity for the Irish club to gain ground.

Drogheda took full advantage, earning three points in a game that could become important in their attempt to escape the lower portion of the standings.

🏆 The Promotion Battle Is Already Getting Interesting

After only 2 of 50 rounds, it is far too early to determine who will ultimately win promotion, but Round 2 showed just how competitive Group C could become.

Red Star Belgrade's defeat is the headline result. The team listed 1st failed to capitalize on its position, while Numancia gained a massive three points that could help launch a climb up the standings.

Hoffenheim, Lyonnais, HFX Wanderers, Cracovia, and Partizan are among the teams around the early playoff picture, but the results demonstrate that even highly ranked clubs are vulnerable.

The 2nd–9th positions are especially important, because those eight teams will eventually enter the promotion playoffs for the second League II promotion spot. But the ultimate prize remains 1st place and automatic promotion.

Meanwhile, teams lower down the table still have plenty of time to recover. With 48 rounds remaining, a club currently sitting outside the top nine can still make a dramatic climb.

And with no relegation from League III, even the teams at the bottom can concentrate entirely on improving their position and chasing one of the league's cup or promotion opportunities.

Round 2 was a goal-filled reminder that nobody is safe and nobody is out of the race this early. With 48 rounds still to go, Group C's promotion battle is only beginning.
