Round 22 of the Premier World League Season 2026 delivered another exciting set of results, with the battle for the playoff positions, World Cup of Clubs qualification, Friendly Cup places, and the fight against relegation all becoming more intense.
With 62 games in the season, Round 22 means every team still has 40 games remaining. There is plenty of football left, but the standings are beginning to take shape.
Cusco FC Continues to Dominate
The biggest result of the round came from the league leaders, Cusco FC (1st), who produced an outstanding 5-1 victory over PSV (21st).
Cusco continues to set the standard at the top of the Premier World League. Sitting in 1st place, the Peruvian club is not only in the playoff positions but also holds one of the coveted top-four spots that qualify for the World Cup of Clubs.
PSV, meanwhile, suffered another setback in the middle-to-lower portion of the table. Sitting 21st entering the match, PSV is in the Friendly Cup zone (17th-22nd) and will need to start picking up points if it wants to climb toward the playoff line.
Wolfsburg Suffers a Major Defeat
One of the biggest surprises was Broncos (26th) defeating Wolfsburg (3rd) 3-2.
Wolfsburg entered Round 22 in an excellent position. At 3rd place, the German side was holding one of the four World Cup of Clubs qualification spots. Losing to a team down in the King's Cup positions is a major missed opportunity.
For Broncos, however, this could be a season-changing victory. Entering the match in 26th, Broncos were in the King's Cup area and desperately needed points. Defeating one of the league's top teams gives them a huge boost in their attempt to climb out of the bottom six.
Atlético Keeps Pressure on the Leaders
Atlético (2nd) continued its strong campaign with a 4-2 victory over San Martín (22nd).
The result keeps Atlético firmly in the World Cup of Clubs qualification positions. With Cusco continuing to win, Atlético will need to maintain its excellent form if it wants to challenge for the league championship.
San Martín remains in the Friendly Cup range, but the defeat means the club has little room for error with teams below them trying to climb the standings.
Real Madrid Wins Again
Real Madrid (11th) picked up a crucial 3-1 victory over Atlanta Atlético (24th).
Real Madrid remains comfortably inside the top-16 playoff positions. Although 11th place is well below the World Cup of Clubs places, there is still plenty of time for the Spanish giants to make a push toward the top four.
Atlanta Atlético, meanwhile, remains in the King's Cup positions (23rd-26th). The club needs a strong run of results to escape the lower qualification zone.
Liverpool's Playoff Push Continues
Liverpool (18th) defeated Werder Bremen (17th) 2-1 in an important battle between two teams fighting just outside the playoff positions.
Both clubs entered the match in the Friendly Cup zone, making the three points especially valuable for Liverpool. Liverpool's victory could help launch a push toward the top 16.
Werder Bremen remains close to the playoff cutoff, however, meaning this race is far from decided.
Bayern Munich Makes a Statement
Bayern Munich (6th) defeated Freiburg (16th) 3-2 in a major playoff-zone matchup.
Bayern entered the game already inside the top six and remains firmly positioned for the playoffs. More importantly, the club continues to have a realistic chance of challenging for a top-four World Cup of Clubs spot.
Freiburg, meanwhile, suffered a painful defeat. Sitting 16th, Freiburg was occupying the final playoff position entering the round. The loss puts enormous pressure on the club to avoid slipping below the playoff line.
Estudiantes Rolls Over Spartak
Estudiantes (13th) produced one of the more comfortable wins of the round, defeating Spartak (27th) 3-1.
Estudiantes strengthened its position inside the top 16, while Spartak remains outside the King's Cup qualification positions. With Spartak sitting 27th, the club is also looking upward toward the King's Cup zone while trying to avoid becoming detached from the rest of the table.
Barcelona Falls to Argentinos Juniors
Argentinos Juniors (12th) defeated Barcelona (8th) 3-2 in another important playoff battle.
Both teams entered the match inside the top 16, so this was a valuable opportunity for each side. Argentinos Juniors picked up three points and strengthened its playoff credentials, while Barcelona missed an opportunity to move closer to the top-four race.
The result also shows how competitive the playoff section has become. Teams from roughly 6th through 16th cannot afford many consecutive defeats.
Aston Villa and Comunicaciones
Aston Villa (7th) defeated Comunicaciones (32nd) 2-1.
Aston Villa remains one of the leading playoff teams and continues to chase the possibility of breaking into the top four. The three points are exactly what the club needed against the league's bottom team.
For Comunicaciones, the situation is becoming increasingly desperate. Sitting 32nd, they remain at the bottom of the standings and are well inside the danger area.
Benfica Gets a Much-Needed Win
Benfica (29th) defeated Western City Wanderers (30th) 3-0.
This was an important result for both teams because of their positions near the bottom of the league. Benfica picked up a convincing three points and moved closer to the teams competing for the King's Cup positions.
Western City Wanderers, meanwhile, remains deep in the lower part of the standings and needs points quickly to avoid getting pulled toward the relegation battle.
Pyramids FC Beats Lokomotiv Moscow
Pyramids FC (9th) defeated Lokomotiv Moscow (10th) 3-1 in a major top-10 matchup.
Pyramids continues to look like a legitimate playoff contender. Sitting 9th, the club is already safely inside the top 16 and can now turn its attention toward the top four.
Lokomotiv suffered a damaging defeat after entering the match in 10th. The Russian club remains in playoff territory but needs to recover quickly because the competition around the playoff line is extremely tight.
Deportivo Municipal Wins a Thriller
Deportivo Municipal (19th) defeated Silkeborg (15th) 2-1.
This was an important result for Deportivo Municipal, which entered the round in the Friendly Cup zone. Taking down a playoff-positioned opponent provides a valuable boost to its attempt to climb toward the top 16.
Silkeborg, meanwhile, suffered a setback in its playoff campaign and must respond quickly to prevent itself from falling closer to the Friendly Cup positions.
Round 22 Playoff Picture
The top 16 remain the playoff positions, and several clubs are now clearly establishing themselves as serious contenders.
The biggest winners from the playoff battle were:

Friendly Cup Race
Positions 17th through 22nd qualify for the Friendly Cup.
The most important result in this section was Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen. Liverpool entered the round in 18th and now has an opportunity to make a serious run toward the top 16.
San Martín (22nd) and PSV (21st) both suffered defeats, making their positions more vulnerable.
This six-team section could change dramatically over the next several rounds.
King's Cup Battle
Positions 23rd through 26th qualify for the King's Cup.
Round 22 produced mixed results for the teams in this area. Atlanta Atlético (24th) lost to Real Madrid, while Broncos (26th) pulled off the upset of the round by beating Wolfsburg.
Broncos' victory could be especially important. A team sitting 26th has little margin for error, and defeating a top-three opponent could provide the momentum needed to climb out of the King's Cup positions.
Relegation Battle
The bottom two teams are in the relegation spots, making the bottom of the table an increasingly dangerous place.
