Round 4 of League III Season 2026 — Group C delivered another entertaining collection of results, including a major victory for Tecos, a setback for defending leaders Alajuelense, and several important battles inside the promotion playoff positions.
With the season lasting 50 rounds, there are still 46 rounds remaining, but the early promotion picture is becoming increasingly competitive.
Alajuelense Suffer Their First Setback
Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, the early leaders, suffered their first defeat of the campaign, falling 3–2 away to C.D. Barrio México.
Despite the defeat, Alajuelense remain 1st in the table and therefore still occupy the coveted automatic promotion spot to League II. Barrio México, meanwhile, are sitting in 10th, putting them in the Friendly Cup position.
For Alajuelense, the defeat is a warning that maintaining the top spot will not be easy over such a long season.
Tecos Make a Statement
The biggest promotion result of the round came as Tecos F.C. defeated FK Partizan 2–1.
Tecos entered the match in 2nd place, while Partizan were 3rd, making this a crucial clash between two of the division's leading teams.
The victory gives Tecos an important boost in the automatic promotion race, while Partizan remain firmly inside the playoff positions. Both teams look like serious contenders after four rounds.
HFX Wanderers Continue Strong Start
HFX Wanderers defeated FC Kramatorsk 2–1 and remain in 4th place.
The result keeps HFX comfortably inside the 2nd–9th promotion playoff positions. Kramatorsk, meanwhile, are down in 19th, leaving them with plenty of work to do to move toward the qualification picture.
Górnik Defeat Hoffenheim in Seven-Goal Thriller
One of the most entertaining games of Round 4 saw Górnik Zabrze defeat TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 4–3.
Górnik currently occupy 5th, giving them another valuable victory in the playoff race. Hoffenheim are 9th, meaning they remain inside the playoff field despite the high-scoring defeat.
The result also highlights how dangerous the teams around the playoff cutoff can be.
Red Star Fall to Ensenada
Ensenada F.C. produced one of the round's biggest surprises by defeating Red Star Belgrade 4–2.
Red Star entered the match in 8th, safely inside the playoff positions, while Ensenada were 21st. The result gives Ensenada a much-needed three points, although they remain outside the qualification places.
Red Star will be hoping the defeat is only a temporary setback.
Arsenal Kyiv Held by Wanderers Grounds
Wanderers Grounds earned a valuable 2–2 draw against FC Arsenal Kyiv.
Arsenal are currently 7th, so the point keeps them in the playoff zone. Wanderers Grounds, meanwhile, sit 22nd, meaning they still have a significant gap to close if they are to challenge for a qualification spot.
Tuzos Pick Up Three Points
Tuzos UAZ defeated FSC Bukovyna Chernivtsi 2–1.
Tuzos are currently 17th, while Bukovyna sit 13th. The victory gives Tuzos some momentum as they attempt to climb toward the playoff and cup qualification positions.
Bukovyna, meanwhile, remain close enough to the middle of the table to potentially make a move upward.
Vojvodina Defeat Numancia
FK Vojvodina recorded a 3–2 victory over C.D. Numancia.
Vojvodina are currently 12th, placing them in one of the King's Cup qualification positions. Numancia sit 20th and continue to search for consistency.
Vojvodina's victory keeps them within touching distance of the playoff places.
Lyon Beat Drogheda
Olympique Lyonnais defeated Drogheda United F.C. 2–1.
Lyon currently occupy 14th, while Drogheda are 16th. Both clubs remain outside the qualification places, but the gap to the teams ahead is still manageable this early in the season.
Marseille and Shamrock Share the Points
Olympique de Marseille and Shamrock Rovers F.C. played out a 2–2 draw.
Shamrock are in 6th place, so the point allows them to remain inside the playoff positions. Marseille are 25th, but with no relegation in League III, their focus is entirely on climbing the standings.
Other Results
The remaining matches also produced important results:
- KS Cracovia defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2–1, with Cracovia in 11th and Frankfurt 23rd.
- Braga and Bohemians F.C. battled to a 3–3 draw. Braga are 26th, while Bohemians sit 16th.
