Round 21 is in the books, and with 21 of 62 games completed, the Group A race is becoming increasingly competitive. There are still 41 rounds remaining, but the separation between the World Cup of Clubs places, the playoff line, the Friendly Cup positions, and relegation is becoming much clearer.
🏆 World Cup of Clubs — Top 4
The top four remain the most valuable positions in Group A, and Valencia continues to lead the championship race.
1. Valencia — 49 points
Valencia remains on top with an impressive 16-1-4 record and a massive +54 goal difference. Their last five matches are W-W-W-L-W, meaning they bounced back from their recent defeat with a victory in Round 21.
2. Sport Boys — 49 points
Sport Boys are level on points with Valencia and remain firmly in the World Cup of Clubs places. Their 15-4-2 record is outstanding, although Valencia's superior goal difference keeps them first.
3. Sporting Cristal — 48 points
Just one point behind the leaders, Sporting Cristal are right in the championship fight. Their 14-6-1 record gives them the fewest defeats of any team in the league, and their +33 goal difference further demonstrates their consistency.
4. Deportivo Cali — 44 points ⬆️
The biggest movement inside the top four! Deportivo Cali climbed one position into fourth. Their 14-2-5 record puts them four points ahead of fifth-place Universitario.
Cali's last five read W-L-W-W-W, suggesting they are hitting excellent form at exactly the right time.

⚽ Playoff Positions 1–16
The playoff race is extremely tight outside the top four.
Universitario (5th, 42 points) dropped one place but remains comfortably inside the playoff zone. Their 12-6-3 record is strong, although their recent D-L-D-W-W form shows some inconsistency.
Manchester United (6th, 38 points) moved up one position and remain 4 points clear of seventh-place Aucas. Their last five are D-L-W-L-D, so they will need greater consistency to challenge the top four.
Aucas (7th, 38 points) dropped one place and are tied on points with United. The Ecuadorian club has struggled recently, with L-L-L-L-L in their last five—a disastrous run for a team still sitting comfortably inside the playoffs.
Cienciano (8th, 37 points) is one of the major stories of Round 21. They climbed two places and are only one point behind Aucas. Even more impressive, Cienciano have won all five of their last five matches. Their 12-1-8 record and +13 goal difference make them one of the hottest teams in Group A.
Hong Kong FC (9th, 37 points) slipped one position but remain level with Cienciano. Their recent form has been mixed at W-D-W-D-D.
Chankas CYC (10th, 35 points) climbed one spot and remain within striking distance of the teams above them.
Bolognesi (11th, 34 points) also moved upward and are now just one point behind Chankas. Their recent W-D-W-W-W run is excellent and could propel them further up the playoff standings.
Atlético Grau (12th, 32 points) dropped one place and have struggled for consistency, going D-L-D-L-D across their last five.
🚀 Alianza Lima makes a huge jump
One of the biggest movers of the round was Alianza Lima, who climbed an incredible five places to 13th.
They now have 30 points, and their last five are W-L-D-D-W. That improvement has brought them firmly into the playoff conversation.
Santa Fe, Real Racing and Cruz Azul
Santa Fe (14th) sits on 29 points, while Real Racing (15th) also has 29 points. Real Racing made another major move, climbing five positions.
The battle for 14th–16th is particularly fascinating because all three teams are tied on 29 points:
- Santa Fe — 29 points, +2 GD
- Real Racing — 29 points, -2 GD
- Cruz Azul — 29 points, -4 GD
That means Cruz Azul currently occupies the final playoff spot at 16th.
🔥 The Playoff Cutoff
The gap between the playoffs and the Friendly Cup is extremely small.
16th — Cruz Azul: 29 points
17th — Deportivo Saprissa: 29 points
There is no points difference at all between the two teams. Cruz Azul's superior goal difference keeps them inside the playoffs.
Saprissa dropped two places and are now outside the playoff zone despite having the same number of points. Their recent form of L-W-L-L-L is a major concern.
This could become one of the most exciting battles of the season: the playoff line is currently decided by goal difference.
🟡 Friendly Cup — Positions 17–22
The Friendly Cup positions currently belong to:
- Deportivo Saprissa — 29
- Deportivo Pereira — 28
- Arsenal — 27
- Vancouver Whitecaps — 26
- Calvary FC — 23
- Feyenoord — 23
Deportivo Pereira (18th) has 28 points and remains just one point away from the playoff line.
Arsenal (19th) sits on 27 points, while Vancouver is three points further back at 26.
Calvary FC (21st) made a positive move up two places and now has 23 points. Feyenoord also has 23, meaning the two teams are tied.
The important thing for these clubs is that the playoff positions are still very much within reach. The difference between 16th and 22nd is only six points.
🏆 King's Cup — Positions 23–26
The current King's Cup positions are:
- San Jose — 23 points
- Libertad — 22 points
- São Paulo — 22 points
- Cesar Vallejo — 21 points
San Jose sits just outside the Friendly Cup places but is level with Calvary and Feyenoord on points.
Libertad and São Paulo are separated only by goal difference, while Cesar Vallejo remains just one point behind them.
The King's Cup battle could easily change dramatically over the next few rounds.
🚨 Relegation Battle
The bottom two positions are occupied by:
31. Pegasus — 14 points
32. U de Chile — 12 points
These are currently the relegation spots, and both clubs have major work to do.
Pegasus has a 3-5-13 record and a terrible -28 goal difference. Their last five have been L-L-L-W-L, showing only a brief glimpse of improvement.
U de Chile is even further behind with just 12 points. They have won only three of their 21 games and have a -29 goal difference.
The good news for both clubs is that 41 rounds remain, so the relegation battle is far from decided.

Real Racing's climb from 20th to 15th puts them directly into the playoff picture.

Another huge mover, Alianza jumped from 18th to 13th and is suddenly a serious playoff contender.

Five consecutive victories have propelled Cienciano into 8th.

Calvary moved into 21st and the Friendly Cup race.

Chelsea climbed to 28th and continues its attempt to escape the bottom four.
⬇️ Cruz Azul: -2
Despite remaining 16th, Cruz Azul's drop puts them under significant pressure from Saprissa.
⬇️ Deportivo Saprissa: -2
Saprissa's fall from 15th to 17th is one of the most damaging developments of the round.
🏁 Round 21 Verdict
Valencia remains in control, but the championship race is far from over. Sport Boys are level on points, while Sporting Cristal are only one point behind them. Deportivo Cali's rise into fourth gives the Colombian club a four-point cushion over Universitario.
The playoff battle is arguably even more exciting. Cienciano is charging upward with five straight victories, while Alianza Lima and Real Racing made enormous jumps. At the bottom of the playoff zone, Cruz Azul sits on the 16th-place cutoff with 29 points, but Saprissa has exactly the same total in 17th.
That means one result could completely change the playoff picture.
Meanwhile, the Friendly Cup and King's Cup races remain tightly packed, while Pegasus and U de Chile are beginning to face a serious fight for survival.
With 41 games still remaining, Group A is only beginning to reveal its final shape.
