The third-place side showed why they are firmly established in the playoff positions. Sport Boys now have another major victory over a fellow high-ranked opponent and continue to look like a serious contender for a World Cup of Clubs place.
Manchester United, meanwhile, remain inside the top 16, but the six-goal thriller represents a missed opportunity to strengthen their playoff position.
⚡ Cienciano Crush Danubio
Cienciano (14th) produced one of the strongest results of the round, defeating Danubio (23rd), 4–1.
The victory is particularly important because Cienciano occupy the final portion of the playoff field. Three points against a team near the King's Cup/relegation danger zone gives Cienciano some breathing room.
Danubio, meanwhile, remain in 23rd and are currently sitting in King's Cup territory. They will need a response quickly to avoid being dragged into the relegation battle.
🏆 Universitario Keep Rolling
Fourth-place Universitario defeated Southampton (26th), 2–1.
It wasn't an overwhelming victory, but the result is exactly what a team fighting for a World Cup of Clubs place needs: three points against a lower-ranked opponent.
Universitario remain comfortably inside the top four, while Southampton continue to occupy one of the two relegation positions.
😱 Arsenal Lose Seven-Goal Thriller
Arsenal (12th) suffered a damaging 4–3 defeat to Real Racing (21st) at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal remain inside the playoff positions, but this is precisely the type of result that can make the middle of the table extremely dangerous. Real Racing, meanwhile, picked up a massive three points and strengthened their hopes of climbing out of the Friendly Cup zone.
