Round 18 of the Premier World League 2026 produced another wild set of results in Group B. With 18 of 62 rounds completed, teams have now played just over a quarter of the season, but the playoff race is already becoming extremely competitive.
Remember, 1st–16th qualify for the playoffs, with the top four earning World Cup of Clubs qualification. Places 17th–22nd go to the Friendly Cup, 23rd–26th qualify for the King's Cup, and the bottom two are relegated.
🔥 Gamba Osaka Smash Santos Laguna
The headline result was an incredible 6–2 victory for Gamba Osaka (3rd) over Santos Laguna (15th) at Corona.
Gamba's attacking performance was outstanding, and the three points keep them firmly in the World Cup of Clubs positions. Santos, meanwhile, suffer a heavy defeat despite beginning the round inside the playoff zone.
With Gamba Osaka already showing a run of five straight wins, they look like one of Group B's strongest teams.
🇺🇸 Inter Miami Continue Their Charge
Inter Miami (5th) defeated Caroní (19th), 5–2, at Chase Stadium.
Miami continue to hover just outside the coveted top four. Their five-goal performance gives them another valuable three points as they chase a World Cup of Clubs berth.
Caroní remain in the Friendly Cup region and will need to start collecting points soon if they want to make a serious playoff push.
💥 Columbus Crew Hammer Olimpia
Columbus Crew (12th) destroyed Olimpia (21st), 5–1, in another one-sided contest.
This is a huge result for Columbus. They are safely inside the playoff positions and have now put additional pressure on the teams immediately above them.
Olimpia, meanwhile, remain in the Friendly Cup zone and are beginning to lose ground on the top 16.
🇧🇷 Internacional Earn a Big Win
Internacional (17th) defeated Atlético Nacional (9th), 2–0.
This may be one of the most important results of the round from a standings perspective. Internacional are currently just outside the playoff positions, and three points against a top-nine opponent puts them right back into the conversation.
Atlético Nacional's defeat is costly because they remain inside the playoff field but failed to capitalize on the opportunity to strengthen their position.
⚔️ Houston Dynamo Stay in the Fight
Houston Dynamo (13th) defeated Flamengo (11th), 2–1 at Shell Energy Stadium.
The victory keeps Houston comfortably inside the playoff places and gives them an important three points against another playoff contender.
Flamengo remain in the top 16, but the defeat means the battle around the middle of the table remains extremely tight.
🌟 New England Revolution Shock Chivas
New England Revolution (6th) defeated Chivas (31st), 3–2.
Chivas pushed one of the strongest teams in the group all the way, but New England escaped with the three points.
The Revolution remain in the upper playoff positions and continue to put pressure on the top four. For Chivas, however, another defeat leaves them deep in the relegation fight.
🏆 River Plate Stay Perfect
River Plate (26th) defeated Puebla (18th), 4–2, despite entering the match near the bottom of the standings.
Puebla had been hoping to move closer to the playoff places, but instead suffered a major setback.
For River Plate, the three points are enormous. They remain in King's Cup territory, but this kind of result could be the beginning of a climb up the table.

- Marítimo 2–1 Boca Juniors – A crucial victory for Marítimo against a team sitting near the top of the table.
- Unión Huaral 2–4 Cerro Porteño – Cerro continue their strong campaign with another four-goal performance.
- Zamalek 2–3 Melgar – Melgar escape with three valuable points after a close contest.
- Millonarios 2–2 Chicago Fire – The points are shared in a result that does little to separate the two sides.

🏆 World Cup of Clubs – Top 4
The top four remain the ultimate prize. Gamba Osaka's 6–2 victory strengthens their position near the summit, while teams such as Inter Miami and New England Revolution continue to chase the leading pack.
🎟️ Playoff Zone – 1st through 16th
The playoff race is extremely competitive. Santos Laguna's heavy defeat puts their playoff position under pressure, while Columbus Crew's 5–1 victory strengthens their hold on 12th.
Houston Dynamo also picked up a critical three points, while Atlético Nacional lost valuable ground.
🟡 Friendly Cup – 17th through 22nd
Internacional's 2–0 win over Atlético Nacional is particularly significant because they are sitting just outside the playoff cutoff. Teams such as Caroní and Olimpia are also within striking distance, but they need positive results soon to avoid falling further behind.
🏆 King's Cup – 23rd through 26th
The lower-middle portion of Group B remains highly congested. River Plate's win over Puebla could prove important as they attempt to escape the King's Cup places.
🔴 Relegation Battle
The bottom of Group B is becoming increasingly dangerous. Chivas, who sit 31st, remain in serious trouble, while several other clubs are trying to avoid getting dragged into the relegation fight.
📈 Round 18 Winners
Gamba Osaka were the biggest winners of the round, not only because of the enormous 6–2 scoreline but because they continue to establish themselves as a genuine World Cup of Clubs contender.
Inter Miami, Columbus Crew, Internacional and Houston Dynamo also made important moves in their respective battles.
📉 Round 18 Losers
Santos Laguna suffered the most damaging defeat, conceding six goals at home. Atlético Nacional and Flamengo also lost valuable ground in the playoff race, while teams such as Puebla and Olimpia missed opportunities to move closer to the top 16.
🔮 Looking Ahead
With 44 rounds still remaining, there is plenty of time for the table to change dramatically. But Round 18 has established an important trend: the race from the World Cup of Clubs positions all the way down to the King's Cup places is incredibly tight.
Gamba Osaka look increasingly dangerous at the top, while Inter Miami and New England Revolution are knocking on the door of the top four. At the other end, clubs outside the playoff zone need to start stringing victories together before the gap becomes too difficult to overcome.
Group B is wide open after 18 rounds—and the battle for those 16 playoff places is only getting started.
