Round 9 of League III Season 2026 delivered another wild collection of results in Group D, with 59 goals scored across 13 matches. The round featured several high-scoring thrillers, including two matches that produced six goals and an incredible 4–4 draw between Blooming and K.R.C. Genk.
With 50 rounds on the schedule, the season is still in its early stages. After nine rounds, teams have completed just 18% of the campaign, leaving 41 rounds for the promotion and cup races to develop.
The stakes remain clear: 1st place earns automatic promotion to League II, while 2nd through 9th qualify for the promotion playoffs for the second promotion spot. 10th qualifies for the Friendly Cup, while 11th and 12th qualify for the King's Cup. There is no relegation from League III.
Round 9 Results
AIK Fotboll 4–2 Defensa y Justicia
AIK Fotboll bounced back in impressive fashion with a convincing 4–2 victory over Defensa y Justicia at Nationalarenan. After conceding twice, AIK's attack proved too much for the Argentine side as they secured an important three points.
Adelaide City 2–3 Deportivo Táchira
Deportivo Táchira continued its strong form with a hard-fought 3–2 away victory against Adelaide City. Táchira's ability to win another close match keeps them moving in the right direction, while Adelaide once again found itself on the wrong side of a narrow result.
Arameisk-Syrianska IF 2–2 Zamora FC
Arameisk-Syrianska and Zamora FC battled to a 2–2 draw in a competitive encounter at Brunna IP. Neither side could find the decisive goal, resulting in a point apiece.
Mushuc Runa 3–3 Metropolitanos FC
One of the round's biggest thrillers ended in a 3–3 draw. Mushuc Runa and Metropolitanos exchanged goals throughout the match, with neither team willing to give an inch. Six goals and a point for each side made this one of the most entertaining games of Round 9.
Independiente del Valle 3–1 Mushuc Runa
Independiente del Valle secured a strong 3–1 victory over its Ecuadorian opposition, controlling the contest and collecting three valuable points. The result provides an important boost as the long season continues.
San Lorenzo de Almagro 3–2 Municipal Pérez Zeledón
San Lorenzo claimed one of the round's closest victories, defeating Municipal Pérez Zeledón 3–2. The Argentine side produced enough attacking quality to take all three points in a five-goal battle.

Bentín Tacna Heroica 3–2 Lempira FC
Bentín Tacna Heroica continued its excellent run with another 3–2 victory. Lempira stayed within striking distance throughout the match, but Bentín once again demonstrated its ability to close out tight contests.
Club Plaza Colonia de Deportes 2–2 C.D. Dandy
Plaza Colonia and C.D. Dandy shared the points following a 2–2 draw. Both clubs found the net twice, but neither could produce a winning goal during the final stages.
Centro Atlético Fénix 1–1 CD Choloma
Fénix and Choloma played out a 1–1 draw. The two sides traded goals but ultimately had to settle for one point each.
Blooming 4–4 K.R.C. Genk
The match of the round! Blooming and K.R.C. Genk produced an extraordinary 4–4 draw, with eight goals lighting up Estadio Ramón Tahuichi Aguilera. Neither side could gain control for long, and every time one team appeared ready to pull away, the other answered.
A four-goal performance from each side made this the highest-scoring match of Round 9 and one of the most memorable games of the season so far.
Bucha 2–1 Canon Yaoundé
Bucha picked up a valuable 2–1 victory over Canon Yaoundé at Yuvileinyi Stadium. Canon managed to stay competitive, but Bucha's attack produced the deciding goal and secured all three points.
R.S.C. Anderlecht 2–1 Puntarenas FC
Anderlecht closed the round with a narrow 2–1 victory over Puntarenas FC. The Belgian side successfully defended its home advantage and took three important points from a competitive match.
Round 9 Highlights
Round 9 was dominated by attacking football. The 59 goals scored represented an average of roughly 4.5 goals per match, making it another high-scoring week in Group D.
The biggest headline was undoubtedly the 4–4 draw between Blooming and K.R.C. Genk, while the 3–3 encounter between Mushuc Runa and Metropolitanos also provided plenty of drama.
There were six matches decided by a single goal, demonstrating just how competitive Group D remains. Deportivo Táchira, San Lorenzo, Bentín Tacna Heroica, Bucha, and Anderlecht all had to survive close contests to collect three points.
The Bigger Picture
After nine rounds, the Group D table is beginning to develop some separation, but there is still a tremendous amount of football remaining.
The automatic promotion race remains the ultimate prize, with only the team finishing 1st guaranteed a place in League II. The teams occupying 2nd through 9th will have another opportunity through the promotion playoffs, meaning even clubs outside the top spot remain very much alive in the promotion battle.
At the other end, 10th place is still valuable because it guarantees a Friendly Cup berth, while 11th and 12th receive King's Cup qualification. Since there is no relegation, clubs at the bottom can concentrate on climbing the table rather than worrying about dropping out of League III.
With 41 rounds still to play, Group D is nowhere near decided. Round 9 may have provided some momentum swings, but the marathon toward League II promotion has only just begun.
