Premier World League Season 2026 Group A Round 23 Recap

Round 23 is complete, and the Group A standings continue to tighten. With 23 of 62 rounds played, 39 rounds remain, but the top-four race and the battle for the final playoff places are becoming especially interesting.

🏆 World Cup of Clubs Race — Top 4

🥇 1. Sport Boys — 55 points

Sport Boys remain on top after another impressive victory, defeating Hong Kong FC 3–2. They now have a three-point cushion over Sporting Cristal and have established themselves as the team to catch.

🥈 2. Sporting Cristal — 54 points

Sporting Cristal remain just one point behind the leaders after an emphatic 4–1 victory over Danubio. Their consistency continues to be remarkable, and the championship race between Cristal and Sport Boys is becoming a two-team battle.

🥉 3. Valencia — 52 points

Valencia bounced back strongly from their Round 22 defeat by beating Deportivo Pereira 3–2. They remain seven points clear of fifth-place Deportivo Cali, giving them a solid cushion inside the World Cup of Clubs places.

4. Universitario — 48 points

Universitario strengthened their grip on fourth with a 3–2 victory over Santa Fe. They are now four points ahead of Cali and remain firmly in the top-four race.

Current World Cup of Clubs positions:

  1. Sport Boys — 55
  2. Sporting Cristal — 54
  3. Valencia — 52
  4. Universitario — 48

⚽ Playoff Race — Positions 1–16

The playoff positions remain highly valuable, with Deportivo Cali now looking to close the gap on the top four.

5. Deportivo Cali — 47 points

Cali produced one of the biggest victories of the round, defeating Bolognesi 4–2. They remain fifth but have reduced the gap to Universitario to just one point.

6. Manchester United — 44 points

United had an extraordinary afternoon at Old Trafford, demolishing Aucas 6–3. The three points move United to 44 and give them a three-point advantage over seventh-place Aucas.

7. Aucas — 41 points

Aucas suffered a heavy defeat against Manchester United. They remain in the playoff zone, but their recent form makes their position increasingly vulnerable.

8. Chankas CYC — 41 points

Chankas picked up a huge 3–2 victory over Libertad and are now level with Aucas. They continue to look like one of the stronger teams outside the top six.

9. Cienciano — 40 points

What a statement from Cienciano! They destroyed Feyenoord 8–0, producing arguably the most dominant performance of Round 23.

Cienciano are now just one point behind Aucas and Chankas. Their goal difference also received an enormous boost from the eight-goal performance.

10. Bolognesi — 37 points

Bolognesi slipped after losing 4–2 to Deportivo Cali. They remain inside the playoff zone but now have Hong Kong FC and Alianza Lima closing in.

11. Hong Kong FC — 37 points

Hong Kong FC suffered a narrow 3–2 defeat to first-place Sport Boys. They remain on 37 points and just inside the playoff positions.

12. Alianza Lima — 36 points

Alianza continued their impressive climb by beating Real Racing 3–2. They are now only one point behind Hong Kong FC and could soon break into the top 10.

13. Atlético Grau — 35 points

Grau suffered a damaging 3–2 defeat to Chelsea. They remain in the playoffs but now have little room for error with Alianza just two points behind.

14. Cruz Azul — 32 points

Cruz Azul lost 3–2 to São Paulo, leaving them on 32 points. They remain in the playoff positions, but the gap below them is beginning to shrink.

15. Arsenal — 30 points

Arsenal climbed into the top 16 after beating Vancouver Whitecaps 2–1. The victory is particularly important because Arsenal were outside the playoff places heading into the round.

16. Deportivo Saprissa — 29 points

Saprissa currently holds the final playoff position, but their position is extremely precarious after losing 2–1 to U de Chile.

🔥 The Playoff Cutoff Is Getting Fierce

The battle for 16th is becoming one of the most exciting stories in Group A.

16th — Deportivo Saprissa: 29 points

Just behind them are several teams also sitting around the same total:

  • Real Racing — 29
  • Santa Fe — 29
  • Vancouver Whitecaps — 29

All three lost in Round 23, which prevented them from overtaking Saprissa.

The difference between making the playoffs and missing out is therefore extremely small. With 39 rounds remaining, expect the 16th-place position to change frequently.

🟡 Friendly Cup — Positions 17–22

The current Friendly Cup group begins with:

17. Real Racing — 29
18. Santa Fe — 29
19. Vancouver Whitecaps — 29
20. Deportivo Pereira — 28
21. São Paulo — 28
22. Calvary FC — 26

São Paulo made one of the biggest moves of the round, defeating Cruz Azul 3–2 and moving up to 28 points.

Deportivo Pereira remains only one point behind São Paulo after losing to Valencia.

Calvary FC also had a valuable 2–1 win over San Jose, bringing them to 26 points.

The Friendly Cup race is still incredibly congested, with only a few points separating most of the teams.

🏆 King's Cup — Positions 23–26

The King's Cup places are currently occupied by:

23. Cesar Vallejo — 24
24. San Jose — 24
25. Feyenoord — 23
26. Libertad — 23

Cesar Vallejo defeated Pegasus 3–2, giving them three crucial points.

San Jose went down 2–1 to Calvary FC, while Feyenoord suffered the humiliation of an 8–0 loss to Cienciano.

Libertad also lost 3–2 to Chankas.

The King's Cup battle is therefore still wide open, with only one point separating 24th and 25th.

🚨 Relegation Battle

The bottom two remain:

31. Southam — 16 points

Southam lost 3–2 to Montreal Impact, leaving them stuck on 16 points.

32. U de Chile — 15 points

U de Chile finally picked up a massive result, defeating Deportivo Saprissa 2–1.

That victory moves them to 15 points, just one point behind Southam. More importantly, it gives U de Chile renewed hope of escaping the relegation places.

Pegasus, meanwhile, remains on 17 points after losing 3–2 to Cesar Vallejo. That means the battle for survival between Pegasus, Southam and U de Chile is becoming extremely interesting.

📈 Round 23 Biggest Winners

🔥 Cienciano

An incredible 8–0 victory over Feyenoord. Cienciano are now ninth and just one point behind the teams in seventh and eighth.

🔥 Manchester United

A spectacular 6–3 win over Aucas puts United six points ahead of eighth-place Cienciano.

🔥 Deportivo Cali

The 4–2 win over Bolognesi keeps Cali within one point of fourth-place Universitario.

🔥 Alianza Lima

Their 3–2 win over Real Racing continues their climb and leaves them just one point outside the top 11.

🔥 Arsenal

A 2–1 win over Vancouver pushes Arsenal into the playoff zone at 15th.

🔥 U de Chile

Their victory over Saprissa could prove enormous in the relegation battle.

🏁 Round 23 Verdict

Sport Boys remain in control of Group A, but Sporting Cristal are refusing to let them get away. The two clubs are separated by just one point, with Valencia seven points further back.

Behind the top four, Deportivo Cali has become the main challenger, while Manchester United, Aucas, Chankas and especially Cienciano are fighting for the next positions.

The most spectacular team of the round was unquestionably Cienciano, whose 8–0 destruction of Feyenoord dramatically improved their goal difference and pushed them within touching distance of the top seven.

At the other end of the playoff zone, Saprissa is clinging to 16th, with three teams on 29 points breathing down their necks.

And the relegation fight has suddenly become interesting again: U de Chile's victory leaves them just one point behind Southam, while Pegasus sits only two points above the relegation line.

After 23 of 62 rounds:

🏆 World Cup of Clubs: Positions 1–4
Playoffs: Positions 1–16
🟡 Friendly Cup: Positions 17–22
🏆 King's Cup: Positions 23–26
🚨 Relegation: Positions 31–32

39 rounds remain, and Group A is becoming a genuine battle from top to bottom.
