Round 6 of League III Season 2026 delivered one of the biggest shocks of the young campaign, as league leaders Toronto FC suffered their first defeat of the season. With 50 rounds in total, there is still a long road ahead, but the promotion and playoff races are already becoming increasingly competitive.
Toronto FC Finally Falls
The biggest story of Round 6 came from Senegal, where AS Dakar Sacré-Cœur produced a stunning 4–2 victory over Toronto FC.
Toronto entered the match as the #1-ranked team and had won its previous five matches, making the defeat its first setback of the season. Dakar, ranked seventh coming into the round, took full advantage of its opportunity and scored four times against the previously unbeaten leaders.
Toronto remains the team everyone is chasing, but the result sends an early warning that the automatic promotion race will not be easy.
Coquimbo Continues Its Strong Run
Coquimbo Unido, ranked fourth entering the round, strengthened its promotion credentials with a 2–1 victory over FC Akron Tolyatti.
Coquimbo's recent form has been impressive, and another three points keeps the Chilean club firmly among the teams competing for the automatic promotion place and the playoff positions.
Akron, meanwhile, remains outside the top-nine playoff zone and will need to improve its consistency.
Iquique Takes Down RB Leipzig
Another important result came from the battle near the top of the standings.
Deportes Iquique, ranked third, defeated RB Leipzig 3–2 in a closely contested match. Iquique's victory gives the Chilean side another valuable three points in its pursuit of the promotion race.
Leipzig entered the match in 16th and was unable to use home advantage to climb toward the playoff places.
Viking Knocks Off CSKA Moscow
Viking FK produced another important result by defeating PFC CSKA Moscow 2–1.
Viking entered Round 6 in eighth place, meaning the victory came against a direct rival for the promotion playoff picture. CSKA, meanwhile, began the round in fifth and will be disappointed to drop points in a match that could prove significant later in the season.
The result makes the battle for the 2nd–9th playoff positions even more interesting.
Pirata Held in a Thriller
Second-ranked Pirata FC was unable to take all three points against FC Köln, with the two sides playing out an entertaining 3–3 draw.
Pirata had entered the round as Toronto's closest challenger, so a victory could have allowed the Peruvian club to close the gap at the top. Instead, the draw gives Toronto some breathing room despite its defeat.
Köln's point is valuable, particularly with the German club beginning the round inside the playoff positions.
Audax Italiano Makes a Move
Audax Italiano, sitting 10th entering the round, earned an important 3–2 away victory over FC Union Berlin.
The result could prove especially valuable because 10th place is the final Friendly Cup qualification position. Audax will be looking to use this victory as a springboard into the top nine and the promotion playoffs.
Union Berlin, meanwhile, remains in the lower part of the table.
Cobresal Wins the Battle With Dynamo Moscow
Cobresal defeated Dynamo Moscow 3–2 in another close contest.
Cobresal entered the match 12th, putting the Chilean side in the King's Cup qualification zone. The victory could help Cobresal push toward the top nine, while Dynamo entered 17th and remains outside the major qualification positions.
Chaco Petrolero Scores Four
One of the round's most convincing performances came from Chaco Petrolero, which demolished Shandong Luneng Taishan 4–1.
Shandong entered the match 14th while Chaco was 13th, making this an important mid-table battle. Chaco's four-goal performance gives the Bolivian club valuable momentum and could push it toward the Friendly Cup and playoff races.
Other Round 6 Results
SC Heerenveen defeated AZ Alkmaar 2–1, giving the Dutch side an important three points while AZ continues to struggle near the bottom.
Casa Sports and Atlético Ottawa played to a 2–2 draw, leaving both clubs searching for consistency.
Raja was held to a 2–2 draw by ASCE La Linguère, costing the sixth-ranked side an opportunity to strengthen its playoff position.
At the bottom of the table, Defence Force defeated Excelsior Rotterdam 3–2. Excelsior's defeat leaves the Dutch club still searching for its first breakthrough in the early stages of the campaign.
Finally, Club Deportivo Palestino came from behind to defeat Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao 3–2, earning a crucial away victory.
The Promotion Race After Six Rounds
The early qualification picture remains extremely competitive.

With only six of 50 rounds completed, there are still 44 rounds remaining. The table is nowhere near settled, but Round 6 has made one thing clear: Toronto may be the early favorite for automatic promotion, but the chase is officially on.
