Round 20 of the Premier World League 2026 delivered plenty of movement and important results across the table. With 42 rounds still to play in the 62-game season, the playoff race is beginning to take shape, while the battle at the bottom is becoming increasingly urgent.
🏆 World Cup of Clubs race — Positions 1–4
Valencia (1st) strengthened their position at the summit with a 2–1 victory over Danubio (24th). Valencia's recent form has been strong enough to keep them firmly in the World Cup of Clubs places.
Sporting Cristal (3rd) also continued their excellent campaign, crushing Pegasus 4–1. Cristal's five-game form is particularly impressive, with four wins and a draw shown going into the match.
Universitario (4th) suffered a setback, however, losing 3–2 to Aucas (7th). That result gives Aucas a major boost in their push toward the top four and puts additional pressure on Universitario.
Cienciano (10th) produced one of the biggest statements of the round by defeating Atlético Grau (11th) 3–1, continuing an outstanding run of five straight wins. Cienciano now look like one of the most dangerous teams outside the current top four.
⚽ Playoff race — Positions 5–16
The playoff zone remains extremely competitive.
Deportivo Cali (5th) lost 3–2 to Cruz Azul (16th), giving Cruz Azul a huge result against a top-five opponent. Cali's recent form had been excellent, but the defeat prevents them from consolidating their position near the top.
Manchester United (6th) were beaten 2–1 by Deportivo Saprissa (17th). It was a costly defeat for United, who remain in the playoff places but now have less room for error.
Aucas (7th) had arguably the most valuable victory among the playoff contenders, defeating fourth-place Universitario 3–2. The three points could be crucial in Aucas' attempt to break into the World Cup positions.
Hong Kong FC (8th) defeated U de Chile 2–1, while Chankas CYC (9th) were held to a 2–2 draw by Feyenoord (22nd). Both remain in the playoff zone, but Chankas missed an opportunity to gain ground on the teams above them.
Elsewhere, Santa Fe (13th) drew 2–2 with Bolognesi (12th), while Arsenal (15th) and Libertad (25th) also finished level at 2–2.
🔥 Teams pushing toward the playoffs
One of the biggest winners of Round 20 was Cruz Azul. Sitting in 16th, exactly on the playoff cutoff, their 3–2 victory over Deportivo Cali gives them valuable momentum.
Just outside the playoff zone, Deportivo Saprissa (17th) defeated Manchester United 2–1. Saprissa are now knocking firmly on the door of the top 16.
Real Racing (20th) also earned an important result, beating San Jose 2–1, while Sport Boys (2nd) defeated Montreal Impact 3–2 in a high-scoring encounter.
🟡 Friendly Cup battle — Positions 17–22
The teams currently occupying positions 17–22 are fighting for the six Friendly Cup places.
Saprissa's victory over Manchester United is particularly significant because they are sitting just outside the playoffs at 17th. The three points could bring them within striking distance of the top 16.
Real Racing (20th) also collected three points, while Feyenoord (22nd) secured a point against Chankas. That keeps Feyenoord in the Friendly Cup picture, although they need more victories if they want to challenge for the playoffs.
🏆 King's Cup battle — Positions 23–26
The King's Cup places are currently 23rd through 26th, making every point important.
Libertad (25th) earned a point from their 2–2 draw with Arsenal, while Calvary FC (23rd) lost 2–1 to São Paulo (28th).
Montreal Impact (26th) suffered another defeat, falling 3–2 to second-place Sport Boys. Their five-game form shows five consecutive losses, putting them under serious pressure.
🚨 Relegation battle
The bottom two positions are the danger zone, and Pegasus (32nd) had another difficult afternoon, losing 4–1 to Sporting Cristal. With the bottom two facing relegation, Pegasus desperately need to reverse their fortunes.
Southam (29th) also lost, going down 3–2 to Chelsea (30th) in a crucial battle near the bottom. Chelsea's victory is especially valuable because it came against another relegation-threatened side.

With 20 of 62 rounds completed, there is still a long way to go—but the Round 20 results have made the Group A table considerably more tense.
