League III – Group A: Round 21 Recap
Round 21 of League III Group A delivered more drama as the race for promotion heats up. With 38 total rounds in the season, the halfway mark has been crossed, and every point is starting to matter — especially for the top nine teams chasing direct promotion or a playoff berth.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC (CND) remain the team to beat. They held firm at the top of the table with 43 points, continuing their excellent form thanks to their potent attack (74 goals scored) and steady defense. Their unbeaten streak stretches further, and they look well-positioned for promotion to League II.
Deportivo Garcilaso (PER) stay close behind in second place with 39 points, keeping pressure on the leaders after another strong performance. Their consistency on both home and away grounds continues to make them one of the most balanced sides in the league.
Excelsior Rotterdam (NEATH) also remain in the mix with 38 points, rounding out the current automatic and playoff-bound trio. Their recent run of form has been impressive, though dropped points in tight games have kept them from challenging Vancouver directly.
Just below, Audax Italiano (CHI) and Pirata FC (PER) are level on 38 points as well, keeping the playoff race tight. Both sides have shown flashes of brilliance but must tighten up defensively to stay in contention.
The mid-table playoff zone remains crowded — Dynamo Moscow (RUS), Toronto FC (CND), Chaco Petrolero (BOL), and ASCE La Linguère (SEN) all sit between 34–35 points, ensuring a fierce fight for the final playoff places.
On the other hand, the struggles continue for teams near the bottom. Shandong Luneng Taishan (CHN) and Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao (CHN) remain winless, with the latter suffering a brutal -92 goal differential after conceding 104 goals in 21 matches — the worst record in the entire division.
With 17 rounds left, Vancouver’s path to direct promotion looks increasingly strong, but the playoff battle remains wide open, with as many as ten teams still realistically in contention.
Next round promises more pivotal clashes that could redefine the race for League II promotion — and survival.
