League III – Group C: Round 21 Recap
The battle for promotion in Group C of League III continues to heat up as Round 21 wraps up, with Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER) strengthening their grip at the top while the playoff race remains wide open behind them. With 38 total rounds, the race for League II promotion is only halfway through, but patterns are starting to emerge.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER) remain the class of the group, sitting firmly in first place with 48 points after another dominant display. Their attacking power has been unmatched — 74 goals scored, the most in the group — and their defense has held firm, giving them a comfortable five-point cushion. Promotion to League II looks increasingly within reach if they maintain this pace.
C.D. Barrio México (CRI) continue to impress in second place with 43 points, keeping the German giants within sight. Their consistent form both home and away has made them one of the most reliable sides in the league, and they’re positioning themselves well for either a late title push or a strong playoff run.
Limón F.C. (CTR) round out the top three with 40 points, just three behind Barrio México. The Costa Rican side remains a serious contender, boasting one of the league’s best goal differentials (+20).
Red Star Belgrade (SER) and FK Vojvodina (SER) both sit on 35 points, making Serbia well-represented in the top five. Both teams have shown good attacking intent but need more defensive stability to challenge the leaders.
Further down, Shamrock Rovers F.C. (IRL), TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (GER), Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (CTR), and Lech Poznań (POL) occupy playoff positions 6th through 9th, all clustered between 32 and 34 points. These teams remain well within reach of the top four, and every match in the next stretch could drastically alter their positions.
Mid-table sides like Drogheda United (IRL) and FC Arsenal Kyiv (UKR) still have faint playoff hopes but will need a string of victories to climb back into contention.
At the bottom, Olympique Lyonnais (FRA) continue to struggle mightily. With just 6 points and a staggering -67 goal differential, they remain winless and in danger of finishing the season without a victory. Olympique de Marseille (FRA) and Bohemian F.C. (IRL) are only slightly better off, but still deeply entrenched in the relegation battle zone.
With 17 rounds remaining, Bayer Leverkusen look dominant favorites for the automatic promotion spot, but the playoff race — stretching from 2nd all the way down to 10th — remains extremely tight.
Round 22 promises to bring key showdowns among the playoff contenders, where even a single win or loss could reshape the group’s promotion picture.
