League III 2025 Group A Round 20 Recap

League III – Group A Round 20 Recap

Round 20 brought the first half of the League III season to a thrilling checkpoint, with battles tightening across the table as teams eye promotion and playoff positions. With 38 rounds in total, every point now feels heavier — and a few key results this week could shape the road ahead.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC (CND) – Still on Top

Vancouver remain the team to beat, holding firm at the top with 40 points after 20 matches. Their attack continues to deliver — 69 goals scored, the best in the group — and even with the occasional stumble, their consistency keeps them two wins clear of the chasing pack. The dream of direct promotion to League II is alive and well in British Columbia.

Deportivo Garcilaso (PER) – Hot on Their Heels

Garcilaso stay right in the mix with 36 points, keeping pressure on the leaders thanks to another solid showing. Their defense has tightened up, and the balance across home and away form suggests they’ll remain a strong contender not only for playoffs but possibly a late surge for the top spot.

Pirata FC (PER) – Level and Dangerous

Also sitting at 36 points, Pirata FC continue to impress. Their 53 goals scored and aggressive playstyle have made them a nightmare for defenses. A few defensive lapses have cost them key points, but their attacking firepower keeps them in the race.

Mid-Table Mayhem: Excelsior, Audax, Chaco, Dynamo & Toronto

Positions 4 through 8 are separated by just a few points — a perfect recipe for drama.

  • Excelsior Rotterdam and Audax Italiano both reached the 35-point mark, with solid home form but mixed away results.

  • Chaco Petrolero and Dynamo Moscow continue to hover around the playoff cutoff zone, alternating between strong wins and sudden setbacks.

  • Toronto FC holds 31 points, showing improvement in attack but needing a steadier defense to stay in contention.

Club Deportivo Palestino & ASCE La Linguère – Staying in the Mix

Palestino (30 pts) and La Linguère (29 pts) remain very much alive in the playoff hunt. Both teams have had strong patches of form lately, and with 18 rounds still to go, they’ll be key disruptors for anyone above them.

Lower Table Battles

Below mid-table, Deportes Iquique, Casa Sports, and PFC CSKA Moscow are all scrapping to turn draws into wins.

  • Iquique (28 pts) are tough to beat but need more victories to rejoin the playoff chase.

  • Casa Sports (28 pts) are showing life after a few positive results.

  • CSKA Moscow (27 pts) are finding form again and can still climb quickly if they build momentum.

Struggling Sides

The bottom half sees several teams struggling for consistency. AZ Alkmaar and Heerenveen (both in the mid-20s) need quick turnarounds to stay relevant. Atlético Ottawa and AS Dakar Sacré-Coeur have found goals hard to come by, while FC Akron Tolyatti and Shandong Taishan are still searching for rhythm.
At the very bottom, Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao remain winless — 20 losses, 10 goals for, 101 against — marking one of the toughest seasons in League III history.

Looking Ahead

With 18 rounds still to play, Vancouver Whitecaps FC sit in the driver’s seat for direct promotion, but the chase behind them is fierce. Teams from 2nd through 9th are all within striking distance of the playoff zone — and the upcoming fixtures promise even more movement in this wide-open race.
