Premier World League Season 2026 – Group A Round 31 Recap

Round 31 of the Premier World League Season 2026 is in the books, and Group A produced one of its most spectacular rounds yet. There were 16 matches and 58 goals, including an astonishing 8–0 victory for Sport Boys and a 7–0 demolition by Valencia.

With the season consisting of 62 games, there are now just 31 rounds remaining. The playoff race is heating up, while the World Cup of Clubs, Friendly Cup, King's Cup and relegation battles are all becoming increasingly important.

🌎 World Cup of Clubs Race – Top 4

The biggest winners of Round 31 were the four teams currently occupying the coveted World Cup of Clubs positions. All four recorded victories.

🥇 Sport Boys – 1st

Sport Boys 8–0 Deportivo Pereira

What a performance from the league leaders!

Sport Boys completely destroyed Deportivo Pereira, scoring eight goals without conceding. The result reinforces their position at the top of Group A and sends a huge warning to everyone chasing them.

With only 31 rounds remaining, Sport Boys are establishing themselves as the team to beat.

🥈 Sporting Cristal – 2nd

Sporting Cristal 4–1 Libertad

Sporting Cristal responded strongly with a convincing victory over Libertad.

The second-place side continues to keep pace with Sport Boys and maintains its position in the World Cup of Clubs places.

🥉 Cienciano – 3rd

Cienciano 5–1 San Jose

Cienciano produced another emphatic result, cruising past San Jose 5–1.

After their defeat against Cruz Azul in Round 30, this was exactly the response Cienciano needed. They remain firmly in third and look determined to stay among the elite.

4️⃣ Valencia – 4th

Valencia 7–0 Arsenal

Valencia were arguably the most dominant team of the round apart from Sport Boys.

A seven-goal explosion against Arsenal gives Valencia another massive three points and keeps them in the final World Cup of Clubs position.

🏆 World Cup of Clubs positions

1. Sport Boys
2. Sporting Cristal
3. Cienciano
4. Valencia

The top four all won, meaning the race for the four World Cup of Clubs places remains extremely tight.

⚽ Playoff Battle – Positions 1–16

The top 16 qualify for the playoffs, and several teams in this zone had major results.

Universitario, currently 5th, defeated Cruz Azul 4–3 in a thrilling seven-goal contest. It was a huge result because Cruz Azul are also fighting for playoff positioning.

Deportivo Cali, sitting 6th, continued their strong campaign with a dominant 4–1 victory over Montreal Impact.

Hong Kong FC, currently 8th, were equally impressive, defeating Santa Fe 4–1.

Manchester United also strengthened their playoff credentials with a 3–2 win over Calvary FC.

Meanwhile, Alianza Lima defeated Chankas CYC 2–1, giving the 13th-place side an important victory over a team positioned inside the playoff zone.

One of the biggest disappointments came for Aucas, who lost 2–1 to Deportivo Saprissa. Aucas entered the round occupying 7th, so dropping points against a team outside the playoff places could prove costly.

🟢 Playoff zone

The critical cutoff remains:

Positions 1–16 = Playoffs

Teams currently positioned within that range include the league's top four plus Universitario, Deportivo Cali, Aucas, Hong Kong FC, Cruz Azul, Chankas CYC, Manchester United, Bolognesi, Alianza Lima, Atlético Grau, Vancouver Whitecaps and César Vallejo.

However, Round 31 demonstrated just how quickly things can change. The gap between the playoff teams and those immediately outside them remains extremely important with half the season still to play.

🟡 Friendly Cup Battle – Positions 17–22

The teams finishing 17th through 22nd qualify for the Friendly Cup.

Feyenoord earned a very valuable 3–1 victory over César Vallejo. Feyenoord entered the match in 22nd, so the three points could be extremely important in their effort to remain above the King's Cup positions and potentially challenge for the playoffs.

Universidad de Chile also had an excellent day, crushing Real Racing 5–1.

Real Racing entered the match in 18th, meaning the defeat hurts their Friendly Cup campaign.

The Friendly Cup positions remain a fascinating battleground because teams near the bottom of this zone are also within reach of the playoff places.

🟡 Friendly Cup

17–22 = Friendly Cup

The battle around this cutoff will likely remain one of the most competitive parts of Group A during the remaining 31 rounds.

👑 King's Cup Battle – Positions 23–26

Positions 23–26 qualify for the King's Cup.

Chelsea were one of the big winners here, defeating São Paulo 3–2 at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea entered the round in 24th while São Paulo were 25th, making this a particularly important six-pointer in the lower-table competition.

Universidad de Chile's huge win over Real Racing also gives them momentum as they attempt to climb away from the lower positions.

There is still plenty of time for teams currently in the King's Cup zone to move upward and challenge for the Friendly Cup or even the playoffs.

👑 King's Cup

23–26 = King's Cup

Every victory is becoming more valuable as the season moves toward its second half.

🚨 Relegation Battle

The bottom two positions remain the designated relegation spots, although, as established by the season format, there is no relegation from the league this season.

And one of the bottom teams finally produced a major result.

Southam 3–2 Danubio

Southam, sitting 32nd, shocked Danubio with a 3–2 victory.

It was a huge result for the team at the bottom of the standings and gives Southam some much-needed momentum.

Pegasus also collected three points, defeating Atlético Grau 3–2.

The bottom of the table may not have relegation consequences this season, but these teams are clearly still fighting to improve their final positions.

🔮 Halfway There!

Round 31 represents the halfway point of the 62-game season, and Group A could hardly be more exciting.

Sport Boys have sent out the strongest statement of the round with their extraordinary 8–0 victory, while Valencia, Cienciano and Sporting Cristal all kept winning to protect their World Cup of Clubs positions.

Behind the top four, Universitario and Deportivo Cali continue to look strong in the playoff race, while Hong Kong FC, Manchester United, Cruz Azul and the other playoff contenders cannot afford to relax.

The most intriguing battle may be around the 16th-place playoff cutoff, where teams outside the playoff zone are still close enough to make a run at postseason qualification.

At the other end, Southam's victory over Danubio provides a rare bright spot for the bottom of the standings.

31 rounds are complete. 31 remain. We're officially at the halfway mark—and the race for Group A is wide open.
