Violette Athletic Club produced one of the round's most impressive performances, defeating Celta de Vigo 5–2.

Celta entered the match ranked 2nd, while Violette were 3rd, making this a massive clash near the top of the standings.

Violette's three-goal victory sends a strong message to the rest of Group B. Celta, meanwhile, suffer a major setback in their pursuit of promotion.

Result: Violette 5–2 Celta de Vigo

FC Gloria Buzău 2–3 Rayo Vallecano

Rayo Vallecano came away with an important 3–2 victory over Gloria Buzău.

Rayo began the match in 7th, placing them inside the promotion play-off positions, while Gloria were 23rd.

The three points allow Rayo to maintain their position among the leading nine, while Gloria remain near the bottom of the table.

Result: Gloria Buzău 2–3 Rayo Vallecano

AFC Unirea Slobozia 1–3 Villarreal CF

Villarreal recovered from their previous defeat with a convincing 3–1 victory over Slobozia.

Villarreal entered Round 16 in 4th place, while Slobozia were 16th. After dropping points in earlier rounds, Villarreal desperately needed a win to stay involved in the promotion race.

They delivered exactly that.

Result: Slobozia 1–3 Villarreal

FC Dinamo București 1–3 S.L. Benfica

Benfica continued their push toward the top of Group B with a 3–1 away victory over Dinamo București.

Dinamo started the match in 11th, while Benfica were 5th. The result gives Benfica three valuable points against a team trying to climb toward the promotion play-off places.

Result: Dinamo București 1–3 Benfica

Hidroivare 2–3 BFC Daugavpils

BFC Daugavpils secured a narrow 3–2 victory over Hidroivare.

The result could provide Daugavpils with some much-needed momentum as they attempt to climb away from the bottom of Group B.

Result: Hidroivare 2–3 Daugavpils

AC Horsens 5–1 Rēzeknes FA/BJSS

AC Horsens produced one of the dominant performances of the round, crushing Rēzeknes 5–1.

Rēzeknes, who entered 17th, were unable to cope with Horsens' attacking display.

Result: Horsens 5–1 Rēzeknes

FC Helsingør 2–2 SK Super Nova

FC Helsingør and SK Super Nova shared the points in a 2–2 draw.

Helsingør entered the match in 22nd, while Super Nova were 13th. The point does little to dramatically change either team's position, although Helsingør will be pleased to take something from a higher-ranked opponent.

Result: Helsingør 2–2 Super Nova

KAA Gent 2–2 Royal Antwerp FC

KAA Gent and Royal Antwerp played out another 2–2 draw.

Gent started the match in 25th, while Antwerp were 24th, making this a battle between two teams near the bottom of the standings.

Both teams had opportunities to take all three points, but neither could find a winner.

Result: KAA Gent 2–2 Royal Antwerp

Africa Sports FC 2–3 Royal Charleroi S.C.

Royal Charleroi secured an important 3–2 victory over Africa Sports.

Africa Sports entered the match in 10th, sitting directly on the Friendly Cup qualification line. Charleroi were 14th.

Result: Africa Sports 2–3 Charleroi

Monaco FC 2–1 Canadian (URU)

Monaco FC defeated Canadian 2–1 in a close contest.

Águilas Doradas 3–3 Once Caldas

The highest-profile draw of the round saw Águilas Doradas and Once Caldas finish 3–3.

Once Caldas entered the match in 1st place, while Águilas were 21st. The league leaders therefore dropped two valuable points against one of the lower-ranked teams.

For Águilas, earning a point against the team at the summit is a major achievement.

Result: Águilas Doradas 3–3 Once Caldas

Deportes Concepción 2–3 Cúcuta Deportivo

Cúcuta Deportivo edged Deportes Concepción 3–2.

Concepción began the match in 20th, while Cúcuta were 18th. Both sides were looking to improve their positions, and Cúcuta managed to claim the three points in a tightly contested match.

Result: Deportes Concepción 2–3 Cúcuta Deportivo

Internacional de Bogotá 1–0 Independiente Medellín

Internacional de Bogotá completed the round with a valuable 1–0 victory over Independiente Medellín.

Internacional entered the match in 8th, putting them inside the promotion play-off places, while Medellín were 19th.

The narrow victory is exactly the kind of result a promotion contender needs: three points without needing a high-scoring performance.

Result: Internacional de Bogotá 1–0 Independiente Medellín

🔥 The Promotion Race

Round 16 produced a major shake-up at the top of Group B.

Once Caldas, who began the round in 1st, could only draw 3–3 against 21st-place Águilas Doradas. That represents two points dropped for the leaders.

Meanwhile, Violette Athletic Club destroyed 2nd-place Celta de Vigo 5–2, while Villarreal defeated Slobozia 3–1 and Benfica beat Dinamo 3–1.

The result is a promotion race where the teams chasing first place have been given an opportunity to close the gap.

📈 Play-Off Race

The battle for 2nd through 9th is becoming extremely competitive.

Big winners:

  • 🟢 Violette Athletic Club – 5–2 win over Celta
  • 🟢 Villarreal – 3–1 win
  • 🟢 Benfica – 3–1 win
  • 🟢 Rayo Vallecano – 3–2 win
  • 🟢 AC Horsens – 5–1 win
  • 🟢 Internacional de Bogotá – 1–0 win

Important setbacks:

  • 🔴 Celta de Vigo – lost 5–2
  • 🔴 Canadian – lost 2–1 to Monaco
  • 🟡 Once Caldas – drew 3–3
  • 🟡 Super Nova – drew 2–2

AC Horsens were particularly impressive, scoring five goals against Rēzeknes, while Violette's victory over Celta could prove enormously significant in the battle for the top positions.

🏆 Friendly Cup & King's Cup Battle

The battle around positions 10–12 remains extremely tight.

Africa Sports FC, who began the round in 10th, lost 3–2 to Charleroi. That opens the door for teams immediately behind them.

Monaco FC, starting 12th, took advantage by defeating 9th-place Canadian 2–1. That victory could move Monaco closer to—or potentially into—the promotion play-off zone.

With 34 rounds remaining, there is still a huge amount of football left for the teams around the Friendly Cup and King's Cup positions.
