League III Season 2026 – Group B Round 18 Recap

Round 18 of the League III Group B season delivered plenty of drama, including several important victories for teams battling near the top of the table. With a 50-round season, there are still 32 rounds remaining, so the promotion race is wide open.

Promotion & Cup Picture

  • 🥇 1st: Automatic promotion to League II
  • 🥈–9️⃣ 2nd–9th: Promotion playoffs
  • 🔟 10th: Friendly Cup
  • 1️⃣1️⃣–1️⃣2️⃣ 11th–12th: King's Cup
  • 🚫 No relegation

🥇 Onces Caldas Holds the Top Spot

Onces Caldas (1) 0–0 RC Celta de Vigo (5)

The two highest-ranked sides involved in this matchup could not be separated, playing to a 0–0 draw.

For Onces Caldas, the point keeps the league leaders in the coveted automatic promotion position. However, dropping two points gives the chasing pack an opportunity to close the gap.

Celta, sitting fifth, will also be satisfied with an away point against the league leaders as they continue their push for a playoff position.

🔥 Canadian FC Defeats Rayo Vallecano

Canadian (12) 2–1 Rayo Vallecano (7)

Canadian FC produced one of the more important results of the round, defeating seventh-place Rayo 2–1.

For Rayo, this is a frustrating setback in the promotion playoff race. They remain inside the top nine, but the teams immediately below them are looking to capitalize.

Canadian, meanwhile, is sitting just outside the King's Cup positions and could potentially make a serious climb with more results like this.

🇪🇸 Villarreal Wins at Violette

Violette Athletic Club (6) 1–2 Villarreal CF (4)

A huge matchup near the top of Group B saw Villarreal defeat sixth-place Violette 2–1.

The victory is particularly valuable because Villarreal is now firmly established among the promotion contenders. With both clubs in the upper part of the table, this was a six-pointer in terms of the playoff battle.

🇵🇹 Benfica Held by Gloria Buzău

FC Gloria Buzău (24) 2–2 S.L. Benfica (2)

Second-place Benfica dropped two points in a surprising 2–2 draw against 24th-place Gloria Buzău.

Benfica will certainly see this as an opportunity missed. They are still in the automatic-promotion conversation, but dropping points against a team near the bottom could become significant later in the campaign.

Gloria, on the other hand, can celebrate an impressive result against one of Group B's strongest teams.

⚔️ Flora Gets Past Daugavpils

FC Flora (20) 2–1 FC Daugavpils (23)

Flora collected three points with a 2–1 victory over Daugavpils.

Neither team is currently involved in the promotion battle, but the result gives Flora some momentum as they attempt to climb the table.

🇷🇴 Rezeknes Stuns Dinamo București

FC Dinamo București (16) 2–3 Rēzeknes FA/BJSS (18)

Rēzeknes produced an excellent away performance, defeating Dinamo București 3–2.

The victory could provide a major confidence boost for 18th-place Rēzeknes, while Dinamo misses an opportunity to move toward the middle of the standings.

💥 Hvidovre Crushes Super Nova

Hvidovre IF (17) 5–1 SK Super Nova (13)

One of the biggest wins of Round 18 came from Hvidovre, who dominated Super Nova 5–1.

Five goals make this one of the round's most emphatic performances.

Super Nova will be disappointed after entering the match in 13th, while Hvidovre gets a much-needed boost.

🇩🇰 Horsens Wins Against Antwerp

AC Horsens (3) 2–1 Royal Antwerp (25)

Third-place AC Horsens kept their promotion campaign moving with a 2–1 victory over Royal Antwerp.

Horsens remains firmly in the promotion playoff positions and continues to chase the automatic promotion spot.

For Antwerp, however, the defeat leaves them near the bottom of the table.

🇧🇪 Charleroi Takes Down Helsingør

FC Helsingør (19) 1–2 Royal Charleroi S.C. (9)

Ninth-place Charleroi earned a crucial three points with a 2–1 away victory.

This result could prove extremely important because ninth place is currently the final position qualifying for the promotion playoffs.

Charleroi will be desperate to hold onto that position as the teams behind them attempt to break into the top nine.

🤝 Six-Goal Thriller in Africa

Africa Sports FC (14) 3–3 KAA Gent (26)

Round 18 produced an entertaining 3–3 draw between Africa Sports and KAA Gent.

Six goals were scored, but neither side could find the winner.

For Africa Sports, it is a missed opportunity to climb toward the top 12, while Gent will gladly take a point away from home.

🇲🇨 Monaco Falls to Cúcuta

Monaco FC (10) 2–3 Cúcuta Deportivo (11)

One of the most important matches around the playoff cutoff saw Cúcuta Deportivo defeat Monaco 3–2.

Monaco entered the match sitting 10th, which is the Friendly Cup position, while Cúcuta was directly behind them in 11th.

That makes this result especially significant.

Cúcuta now has momentum in the battle for the upper positions, while Monaco will need to respond if they want to remain in the Friendly Cup spot or push back into the playoff places.

🇨🇴 Águilas Doradas Gets Valuable Win

Águilas Doradas (22) 2–1 Independiente Medellín (15)

Águilas Doradas picked up a 2–1 victory over Independiente Medellín.

Medellín misses an opportunity to move closer to the upper half, while Águilas earns three valuable points toward climbing the table.

🤝 Deportes Concepción Holds Internacional

Deportes Concepción (21) 1–1 Internacional de Bogotá (8)

Eighth-place Internacional was held to a 1–1 draw by Deportes Concepción.

For Internacional, this is a frustrating result because they remain in the promotion playoff positions but could have strengthened their grip on eighth place with a victory.

Concepción earns a respectable point against one of the group's top-nine teams.

📊 Round 18 Takeaways

🥇 Automatic Promotion Race

Onces Caldas remains the team to beat, sitting at the top of Group B. Their 0–0 draw with Celta gives the chasing teams an opportunity to close the gap.

Benfica, Horsens and Villarreal remain among the major challengers near the top.

🏆 Promotion Playoff Battle

The 2nd–9th positions are extremely valuable, and several teams strengthened or weakened their position this round.

  • Horsens – important 2–1 victory
  • Villarreal – excellent win over Violette
  • Celta – valuable point against the leaders
  • Rayo Vallecano – damaging defeat
  • Charleroi – huge win to protect 9th
  • Internacional – dropped two points against Concepción

⚠️ The 9th/10th/11th Battle

Perhaps the most interesting part of the table is around the playoff cutoff.

Charleroi sits 9th, the final promotion playoff position.

Monaco sits 10th, currently holding the Friendly Cup spot.

Cúcuta sits 11th, currently in King's Cup territory.

And Cúcuta just defeated Monaco 3–2, making this battle even more interesting.

🔥 32 Rounds Still to Go

After 18 of 50 rounds, nothing is settled yet.

Onces Caldas has the ultimate prize in sight: automatic promotion to League II. Behind them, Benfica, Horsens, Villarreal, Celta and the other playoff contenders are fighting to secure one of the coveted top-nine positions.

Meanwhile, the teams currently sitting around 9th–12th are separated by a crucial set of objectives: promotion playoffs, Friendly Cup and King's Cup.

With 32 rounds remaining, Group B's promotion race is only beginning to heat up.
