Round 13 of League III Group C delivered goals, upsets, and several important results in the battle for promotion and cup qualification. With the season consisting of 50 rounds, there are still 37 rounds remaining, meaning the table can change dramatically. But with the top nine places leading to the promotion playoffs, every point is already becoming valuable.
The prize structure remains:
- 🥇 1st: Automatic promotion to League II
- 🏆 2nd–9th: Promotion playoffs
- 🎟️ 10th: Friendly Cup
- 👑 11th–12th: King's Cup
- No relegation from League III
Round 13 featured several fascinating clashes between teams from very different parts of the table.
Hoffenheim and Shamrock Rovers battle to a draw
The round opened at Rhein-Neckar-Arena with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Shamrock Rovers playing to a 3–3 draw.
Hoffenheim entered the match ranked 24th, while Shamrock Rovers were ranked 18th. Despite their positions, neither side could find a winner in a six-goal thriller.
For Hoffenheim, taking a point against a higher-ranked opponent provides something positive to build on. Shamrock, however, will look back at this as an opportunity missed to collect three points against a team sitting six places below them.
Six goals, but no separation.
Eintracht Frankfurt defeat Drogheda United
At Waldstadion, Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Drogheda United 2–1.
Frankfurt came into the match ranked 16th, while Drogheda were an impressive 2nd.
That makes this one of the round's biggest upsets.
Drogheda United were in an automatic-promotion position coming into Round 13, but Frankfurt managed to take all three points from the second-ranked side.
For Drogheda, this is precisely the kind of result that could hurt when the promotion race becomes tight. Meanwhile, Frankfurt can take enormous confidence from defeating one of Group C's leading teams.
Lech Poznań hold Bohemians
Lech Poznań and Bohemians FC drew 2–2 at Poznań Stadium.
Lech entered the match ranked 20th, while Bohemians were ranked 10th.
Bohemians were therefore fighting to protect their position on the edge of the promotion-playoff picture. A victory would have been particularly valuable, but Lech prevented them from taking all three points.
The draw keeps both sides moving, although neither got the result they really wanted.
Cracovia edge Vojvodina
At Józef Piłsudski Cracovia Stadium, KS Cracovia defeated FK Vojvodina 3–2.
Cracovia entered the match ranked 9th, placing them inside the promotion-playoff positions, while Vojvodina were 14th.
This was an important three points for Cracovia.
A top-nine team cannot afford to drop points against teams outside the playoff places, especially when the margin between playoff qualification and the middle of the table can become very small.
Vojvodina made Cracovia work for the victory, but the Polish side ultimately got the job done.
Górnik Zabrze and Partizan share the points
Górnik Zabrze drew 2–2 with FK Partizan at Arena Zabrze.
Górnik entered Round 13 ranked 21st, while Partizan were ranked 23rd.
This was a battle between two teams currently situated toward the lower end of Group C, and neither could gain the advantage.
The point does little to dramatically change the picture, but in a 50-round season, there is plenty of time for both clubs to climb toward the King's Cup and Friendly Cup positions.
Arsenal cruise past Red Star
One of the round's most impressive victories came at the CKS ZSU Stadium, where FC Arsenal Kyiv defeated Red Star Belgrade 5–3.
Arsenal entered the match ranked 5th, while Red Star were ranked 7th.
This was a huge promotion-playoff battle between two teams already occupying top-nine positions.
Arsenal's five goals were enough to secure all three points in an eight-goal spectacle. The victory is particularly valuable because they not only gained three points—they denied a direct playoff rival the opportunity to do the same.
Arsenal's 5–3 victory is one of the defining results of Round 13.
Kramatorsk defeat Bukovyna
At Prapor Stadium, FC Kramatorsk defeated FSC Bukovyna Chernivtsi 2–1.
Kramatorsk entered the match ranked 19th, while Bukovyna were ranked 22nd.
Both sides came into the fixture outside the major qualification positions, making this an important opportunity to gain ground.
Kramatorsk took advantage of it.
The victory could prove useful as they attempt to move into the middle of the table and eventually challenge for one of the cup positions.
Liga Deportiva Alajuelense defeat Wanderers
Liga Deportiva Alajuelense defeated Wanderers Grounds 2–1 at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto.
Alajuelense were ranked 6th entering the game, while Wanderers were ranked 15th.
This was an important result for one of Group C's leading promotion contenders.
Alajuelense did not dominate the scoreline, but they did what matters most: they collected three points.
Remaining inside the top nine is critical, and victories over lower-ranked opposition are the foundation of a successful promotion campaign.
Barrio México shock HFX Wanderers
At Estadio José Joaquín "Coyella" Fonseca, C.D. Barrio México defeated HFX Wanderers FC 2–1.
Barrio México entered the game ranked 4th, while HFX Wanderers were ranked 11th.
This was a fascinating matchup because HFX were sitting just outside the promotion-playoff positions, while Barrio México were already comfortably inside the top nine.
The victory keeps Barrio México's promotion ambitions alive and denies HFX a chance to climb into the playoff zone.
With only one place separating the playoff cutoff from the King's Cup area, this could be a particularly important result.
Marseille defeat Tuzos UAZ
At Stade Vélodrome, Olympique de Marseille defeated Tuzos UAZ 2–1.
Marseille entered the match ranked 26th, while Tuzos were ranked 3rd.
This is arguably the biggest upset of the round.
The team sitting at the bottom of Group C defeated one of the teams chasing automatic promotion.
Tuzos UAZ will be furious with the result. A team fighting for 1st place cannot afford to give away points to a club sitting 23 places below them.
For Marseille, however, this could be the type of victory that transforms their season.
Lyon edge Ensenada
Olympique Lyonnais defeated Ensenada F.C. 2–1 at Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
Lyon entered the match ranked 25th, while Ensenada were ranked 2nd.
Like Marseille's victory over Tuzos, this was another stunning result from the lower reaches of the table.
Ensenada were sitting in an automatic-promotion position but left Lyon empty-handed.
The result also makes the top of Group C even more interesting, because two of the leading teams—Drogheda and Ensenada—both dropped points against significantly lower-ranked opponents.
Braga destroy Tecos
At Estádio Municipal de Braga, Braga produced the most dominant performance of the round, defeating Tecos F.C. 3–1.
Braga entered the game ranked 17th, while Tecos were ranked 1st.
That makes this another enormous upset.
Tecos began Round 13 sitting at the very top of Group C and therefore holding the automatic promotion position. Braga, meanwhile, were down in 17th.
Yet Braga produced a disciplined performance and handed the league leaders a damaging defeat.
For Braga, this is potentially a season-changing result. For Tecos, it is a warning that the road to automatic promotion will be anything but easy.
Numancia and Saprissa finish level
The final match of the round saw C.D. Numancia and FC Saprissa draw 3–3 at Nuevo Estadio Los Pajaritos.
Numancia entered the match ranked 8th, while Saprissa were 13th.
Numancia will probably view the result as two points dropped. They were sitting inside the promotion-playoff positions and had the opportunity to collect three points against a team outside the top nine.
Saprissa, meanwhile, can be pleased with taking a point from the eighth-ranked team.

🔥 Round 13: The Leaders Take a Hit
Perhaps the biggest story from Group C this round is the sheer number of top-ranked teams losing points.
The teams entering the round ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd all lost:
- Tecos F.C. (1st) lost 3–1 to Braga
- Ensenada F.C. (2nd) lost 2–1 to Lyon
- Tuzos UAZ (3rd) lost 2–1 to Marseille
That's remarkable.
Meanwhile, Drogheda United, who entered 2nd in the standings shown, also suffered a defeat to Frankfurt.
The upper reaches of Group C have therefore been shaken considerably by Round 13.
🏆 Promotion Race
With the top nine qualifying for the promotion playoffs, teams such as Arsenal Kyiv, Barrio México, Alajuelense, Cracovia and Numancia have plenty to celebrate.
Arsenal's 5–3 victory over 7th-ranked Red Star is especially significant because it was effectively a six-point swing in the promotion battle: Arsenal gained three points while preventing another top-nine side from doing so.
At the same time, the teams at the top need to respond quickly.
Tecos, Ensenada and Tuzos UAZ all entered Round 13 among the top three, and all three lost.
That opens the door for the chasing pack.
⭐ Match of the Round: Arsenal Kyiv 5–3 Red Star Belgrade
There were plenty of contenders, but the 5–3 Arsenal Kyiv victory gets the nod for Match of the Round.
Eight goals, two top-nine teams, and three crucial points for Arsenal made this one of the most important games of the weekend.
💥 Upset of the Round: Olympique Marseille 2–1 Tuzos UAZ
A 26th-ranked team defeating a 3rd-ranked team is hard to beat in the upset category.
Marseille entered the round at the very bottom of Group C and walked away with three points against one of the division's strongest sides.
Braga's 3–1 defeat of league-leading Tecos and Lyon's 2–1 victory over Ensenada deserve almost equal billing.
Looking Ahead
Round 13 has opened the door for a fascinating promotion battle.
There are still 37 rounds remaining, so nobody should be celebrating—or panicking—yet. But the results demonstrate just how dangerous it can be for the leading teams to assume that lower-ranked opponents will simply surrender points.
With 1st place earning direct promotion, the difference between winning and drawing these matches could ultimately decide who moves up to League II.
And with places 2–9 heading to the promotion playoffs, the middle of the Group C table promises to be just as exciting.
Round 13's message is clear:
In Group C, nobody is safe—and nobody is out of the race yet.
