League II 2026 Group B Round 5 Recap

League 2 – Group B

2026 Season • Round 5 Recap (of 46)

Five rounds into the 46-round marathon, Group B is already delivering tight races at both ends of the table, with clear early contenders and growing pressure in the relegation zone.

🔝 Automatic Promotion Spot

1st – FC Schalke 04 (GER)
Schalke have made a powerful statement early in the season, leading the group with 13 points from 5 matches and an impressive goal difference. If the season ended today, they would secure direct promotion to the World Premier League, but maintaining this pace over 46 rounds will be the real challenge.

🎯 Playoff Zone (2nd–9th)

The playoff places are fiercely contested, with multiple clubs separated by only a few points:

  • 2nd – Vasco da Gama (BRA)

  • 3rd – Real Betis (ESP)

  • 4th – Atlético Mineiro (BRA)

  • 5th – Deportivo FAS (SLV)

  • 6th – Hannover 96 (GER)

  • 7th – Atalanta BC (ITA)

  • 8th – Inter (ITA)

  • 9th – Busan I’Park (KOR)

This group remains extremely fluid. A single win or loss could completely reshuffle the playoff order, making consistency crucial as the season progresses.

⚠️ Special Qualification Positions

  • 10th – Lille OSC (FRA)
Lille currently sit in the Friendly Cup qualification spot, just outside the playoffs and well-positioned to challenge the top nine.

  • 11th – Charlton Athletic (ENG)
Charlton occupy the King’s Cup qualification place, still within touching distance of the playoff zone but needing a strong run soon.

🟡 Crowded Mid-Table

From 12th to 19th, teams like Desna, Monaco, FK Čačak, Stade Brestois, Arminia, Blackburn, Africa Sports, and C.D. Santa Clara are locked in a congested pack. Momentum here could quickly turn mid-table security into playoff contention—or drag clubs toward the danger zone.

🔻 Relegation Zone

  • 23rd – Philadelphia Ukrainians

  • 24th – FC Porto (POR)

Both clubs are currently in the relegation spots to League III. Early defensive issues and a lack of points have put pressure on them, but with over 40 matches remaining, there’s still time to engineer a comeback.

📊 Overall Outlook

  • 5 / 46 rounds completed

  • Promotion and playoff races already intense

  • Mid-table congestion suggests constant movement

  • Relegation battles are beginning to take shape early

Round 5 sets the tone, but the long season ahead promises plenty of twists and dramatic shifts in League 2 – Group B.
