League II 2026 Group C Round 5 Recap

League 2 – Group C

2026 Season • Round 5 Recap (of 46)

With just five rounds completed in a long 46-round campaign, Group C is already shaping into one of the most competitive sections of League 2, featuring attacking football, tight point gaps, and early pressure at both ends of the table.

🔝 Automatic Promotion Spot

1st – Cruzeiro (BRA)
Cruzeiro lead Group C after an explosive start, earning 13 points from 5 matches and boasting the most dangerous attack in the group so far. If the season ended today, they would be promoted directly to the World Premier League, but consistency over the long haul will be crucial to hold off the chasing pack.

🎯 Playoff Zone (2nd–9th)

The playoff positions are extremely competitive, with several clubs capable of mounting a promotion push:

  • 2nd – Vélez Sarsfield (ARG)

  • 3rd – Limón FC (CRC)

  • 4th – Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER)

  • 5th – FC Toulouse (FRA)

  • 6th – Beijing Guoan (CHN)

  • 7th – Braga (POR)

  • 8th – AJ Auxerre (FRA)

  • 9th – Santos (BRA)

Point gaps remain minimal, and form swings are already evident. A single strong run could elevate a team into serious promotion contention—or knock them out of the playoff zone just as quickly.

⚠️ Special Qualification Spots

  • 10th – Everton (ENG)
Everton currently sit in the Friendly Cup qualification spot, narrowly missing out on the playoffs and very much within striking distance of the top nine.

  • 11th – Istres (FRA)
Istres occupy the King’s Cup qualification place, needing consistency to avoid being pulled into the lower half.

🟡 Mid-Table Battles

From 12th to 21st, teams such as CSKA Moscow, Toluca, Jocoro FC, Tottenham, Forge FC, Red Bull Bragantino, Twente, Tigre, General Díaz, and C.D. Numancia are packed tightly together. This congestion means the mid-table could become the most volatile area of the standings as the season unfolds.

🔻 Relegation Zone

  • 23rd – Vitesse (NED)

  • 24th – Philadelphia Ukraine USA

Both clubs currently occupy the relegation places to League III. Early defensive struggles and limited point returns have put them under pressure, though with over 40 matches remaining, survival is still achievable.

📊 Overall Outlook

  • 5 / 46 rounds completed

  • Promotion race already intense at the top

  • Playoff zone extremely tight

  • Mid-table congestion promises constant movement

  • Relegation battle forming early

Group C is wide open, and Round 5 is only the opening chapter of what looks to be a dramatic season.
