League II 2026 Group A Round 17 Recap

League II – Group A | Round 17 Recap (2026 Season)

The promotion race is beginning to take shape after 17 of 46 rounds, and the table is already splitting into clear battles: automatic promotion, playoff positioning, mid-table cup spots, and the relegation fight.

🥇 Title & Automatic Promotion Race

Chankas CYC (PER) continue to lead the way with 39 points, extending their advantage thanks to excellent form and the best recent run in the league. Their attack has been electric (49 goals scored), and they currently hold the only automatic promotion spot to the World Premier League.

Pachuca (MEX) remain the closest challenger on 37 points, just two behind. With one of the best goal differences in the league (+25), they look like a serious threat to overtake the leaders if Chankas slip.

Vancouver Whitecaps (FC) sit third on 35 points, firmly in contention and climbing steadily. The top three are beginning to pull away from the pack.

🔵 Playoff Zone (2nd–9th)

The fight for playoff positioning is extremely tight:

  1. AC Milan (ITA) – 33 pts

  2. Fulham (UK) – 32 pts

  3. Fortaleza (BRA) – 31 pts

  4. Botafogo (BRA) – 30 pts

  5. Ajax (NED) – 29 pts

  6. Cartaginés (CRC) – 28 pts

Just 5 points separate 4th from 9th, meaning weekly movement in this section is almost guaranteed. Cartaginés currently hold the final playoff spot but have teams close behind ready to pounce.

🟡 Key Cutoff Spots

  • 10th – FC Copenhagen (26 pts)Friendly Cup qualification

  • 11th – Caracas FC (26 pts)King’s Cup qualification

Both clubs sit right on the edge of the playoff race. One good run could push them into the top nine, while a slump could drag them into the lower mid-table pack.

⚖️ Mid-Table Cluster

From 12th place Middlesbrough (24 pts) down to 18th Al Ahly (18 pts), the standings are packed tightly. A few wins could drastically change positions, meaning this section remains wide open.

🔻 Relegation Battle Intensifies

The danger zone is starting to form:

  1. Dalian Shide – 12 pts

  2. Raja Casablanca – 11 pts

  3. FC Midtjylland – 10 pts

  4. Defence Force – 7 pts

Right now, FC Midtjylland and Defence Force occupy the two relegation spots to League III. Defence Force already look in serious trouble, while Midtjylland must improve quickly to avoid being cut adrift.

📊 Big Picture After Round 17

  • Chankas lead the promotion race but Pachuca are right behind.

  • The playoff battle (places 2–9) is incredibly tight.

  • The 10th/11th cup spots are still in play for several clubs.

  • The relegation fight is beginning to heat up at the bottom.

With 29 rounds still to play, the season is far from decided—but the early storylines are becoming clear.
