League II 2026 Group A Round 16 Recap

League II – Group A

Round 16 Recap (of 46 rounds)

Round 16 marked an important checkpoint in a long 46-round campaign, with promotion, playoff positioning, and relegation battles beginning to take clearer shape.

🔝 Promotion Race

Chankas CYC (PER) continue to lead the table after 16 rounds and currently occupy the all-important 1st place, which guarantees automatic promotion to the World Premier League. Their consistency, especially in recent matches, has kept them narrowly ahead of a tightly packed chasing group.

Just behind them, Pachuca (MEX) and AC Milan (ITA) remain firmly in contention, both showing strong form and staying within striking distance of the summit. With 30 rounds still to play, the title race is far from settled.

🎯 Playoff Zone (2nd–9th)

The battle for the playoff places (2nd–9th) is extremely competitive:

  • Vancouver Whitecaps FC (CAN) and Fulham (UK) continue to impress with solid all-around performances.

  • Fortaleza (BRA) and Botafogo (BRA) remain dangerous contenders, capable of beating anyone on their day.

  • Ajax (NETH) and Caracas FC (VEN) are clinging to playoff positions but cannot afford a dip in form.

  • F.C. Copenhagen (DK) currently round out the playoff zone, though pressure from below is mounting.

With so many teams separated by only a handful of points, every result is proving decisive.

🏆 Cup Qualification Spots

  • 10th place currently earns a spot in the Friendly Cup, a valuable consolation for teams just missing the playoffs.

  • 11th place qualifies for the prestigious King’s Cup, keeping silverware hopes alive despite league struggles.

These positions are still fluid, with multiple teams capable of moving up or slipping down in the coming rounds.

⚠️ Relegation Battle

At the bottom, the danger zone is becoming clearer:

  • The bottom two teams at the end of the season will be relegated to League III.

  • FC Midtjylland (DK) and Defence Force (TB) currently occupy those relegation places after Round 16 and are already under significant pressure.

  • Several teams just above them are not safe yet, meaning the relegation fight is likely to remain intense deep into the season.

🔮 Looking Ahead

With only 16 of 46 rounds completed, League II Group A is still wide open. Promotion dreams, playoff ambitions, cup qualification, and relegation fears are all tightly intertwined. As squads begin to settle and form trends emerge, the next stretch of matches could be decisive in shaping the destiny of this fiercely contested group.

Round 17 promises even more drama as teams push to define their season trajectories.
