League 2 – Group A (2026 Season)
With 38 rounds completed out of 46, the promotion race and playoff battle in League 2 Group A are heating up. Only eight matches remain, and several clubs are still fighting for promotion, playoff spots, and survival.
🥇 Promotion Race
At the top of the table, Vancouver Whitecaps FC hold 1st place with 85 points, keeping the automatic promotion spot to the World Premier League. Their strong attack (101 goals scored) continues to lead the league.
Right behind them are Chankas CYC with 84 points, just one point behind Vancouver. This promotion race is extremely tight and could easily flip in the coming rounds.
AC Milan sit comfortably in 3rd place with 77 points, firmly inside the playoff positions and still within striking distance of the top two if the leaders slip.
⚔️ Playoff Zone (2nd–9th)
The playoff battle remains competitive with multiple teams close in points:
- Chankas CYC – 84 pts
- AC Milan – 77 pts
- Caracas FC – 74 pts
- FC Copenhagen – 70 pts
- Pachuca – 70 pts
- Atlético Indio – 70 pts
- Ajax – 66 pts
- Fulham – 63 pts
The middle of the table is extremely tight, particularly between 5th and 7th, where three teams are tied at 70 points. Every match from here on out could dramatically change the playoff order.
🏆 Cup Qualification Spots
Just outside the playoff places:
- 10th – Botafogo (62 pts) → Friendly Cup qualification
- 11th – Fortaleza (60 pts) → King's Cup qualification
Both clubs remain close enough to potentially push into the playoff zone if they can put together a strong run in the final rounds.
⚠️ Mid-Table Danger
Teams like Sol de América, Al Ahly SC, Middlesbrough, and 2 de Mayo are drifting toward the lower half of the table. While they currently have breathing room, poor form in the closing rounds could drag them closer to the relegation battle.
🔻 Relegation Fight
At the bottom of the standings, the fight to avoid League III relegation is becoming critical.
Bottom two (currently relegated):
- Tout Puissant Mazembe – 30 pts
- Defence Force – 19 pts
Defence Force are in serious danger with the worst goal difference in the league and only 19 points. Meanwhile, Mazembe still have a slim chance to escape if they can catch FC Midtjylland (32 pts) or Raja (32 pts) above them.
📊 Key Storylines After Round 38
- Promotion battle: Vancouver vs Chankas separated by only 1 point.
- Playoff congestion: Three teams tied at 70 points for positions 5–7.
- Cup spots contested: Botafogo and Fortaleza still close to the playoff line.
- Relegation tension: Mazembe and Midtjylland are in a survival fight with eight rounds remaining.
✅ Next milestone: With only 8 rounds left, every match could determine promotion, playoff seeding, and relegation survival in one of the most competitive League 2 seasons yet.
