Copa Libertadores 2026 Group F Recap

Group F of the 2026 Copa Libertadores was one of the most competitive groups in the tournament, with three teams battling closely for the top two spots and qualification going down to the final matchday.

🏆 Final Standings – Group F

  1. Caroní (VEN) – 13 pts
  2. Cerro Porteño (PAR) – 12 pts
  3. The Strongest (BOL) – 10 pts
  4. Danubio (URU) – 0 pts

🔥 Group Recap

🥇 Caroní – Narrow but Deserved Winners

Caroní topped the group with 13 points after a strong and consistent campaign. They picked up key wins, including two victories over The Strongest and a crucial 2-1 away win over Cerro Porteño on the final matchday to secure first place.

Their balanced performances and ability to deliver in decisive moments made the difference in such a tight group.

🥈 Cerro Porteño – Just Short of First

Cerro Porteño finished just one point behind the leaders with 12 points. They were one of the most dangerous attacking teams in the group, highlighted by a dominant 4-0 away win over Danubio and consistent scoring throughout.

However, their final-day loss to Caroní cost them the top spot, forcing them to settle for second despite an otherwise excellent campaign.

🥉 The Strongest – Competitive but Falls to Third

The Strongest remained in contention until late in the group stage, finishing with 10 points. They recorded strong wins, including a 4-0 victory over Danubio and a solid performance against Cerro Porteño.

However, back-to-back losses to Caroní proved decisive in denying them a top-two finish.

➡️ By finishing third, The Strongest qualifies for the Copa Sudamericana 2026, giving them another opportunity to compete internationally after narrowly missing out on Libertadores progression.

❌ Danubio – Winless Campaign

Danubio endured a very difficult group stage, losing all six matches and finishing with zero points. Despite some competitive moments, they were unable to keep up with the quality of the other three teams, conceding heavily (18 goals against).

Their struggles left them at the bottom of the group, eliminated from continental competition.

⚽ Final Thoughts

Group F was defined by its competitiveness at the top:

  • Caroní edged a tight race to win the group.
  • Cerro Porteño impressed but narrowly missed first place.
  • The Strongest fought hard and earned a Sudamericana spot.
  • Danubio could not keep pace with the rest.

With only three points separating first and third, Group F was one of the most exciting and closely fought groups of the 2026 Copa Libertadores.
