League II 2026 Group A Round 29 Recap

League 2 – Group A (2026 Season)

Round 29 Recap

Round 29 of the League 2 Group A season continues to shape the promotion race, playoff battle, and relegation fight as the long 46-round campaign moves closer to its halfway point.

🔝 Promotion Race

Chankas CYC (PER) remain firmly in 1st place with 65 points, strengthening their hold on the automatic promotion spot to the World Premier League. Their impressive record of 20 wins, 5 draws, and only 4 losses shows strong consistency, and they also lead the league in goals scored with 94.

Close behind are Vancouver Whitecaps FC (CND) and AC Milan (ITA), both sitting on 61 points. Vancouver’s powerful attack (74 goals scored) keeps them in the hunt, while AC Milan’s balanced squad continues to grind out results to stay within striking distance of the top spot.

Pachuca (MEX) remain just one point behind them with 60 points, meaning the race for automatic promotion is still extremely tight among the top four clubs.

⚔️ Playoff Zone Battle (2nd–9th)

The playoff positions are becoming increasingly competitive:

  • FC Copenhagen (DK) – 59 pts

  • Fulham (UK) – 52 pts

  • Caracas FC (VEN) – 52 pts

  • Botafogo (BRA) – 50 pts

  • Atlético Indio (HON) – 49 pts

These teams currently hold the remaining playoff positions, but the margin separating them from the chasing pack is slim. Any slip in form could dramatically change the standings over the next few rounds.

🚨 Just Outside the Playoffs

Ajax (NETH) sit in 10th place with 48 points, which currently qualifies them for the Friendly Cup. Right behind them is Fortaleza (BRA) in 11th place with 46 points, holding the King’s Cup qualification spot for now.

However, several teams are within reach, meaning these positions are far from secure as the season progresses.

📉 Bottom of the Table

The relegation zone is starting to look dangerous for several clubs.

  • Olmedo (ECU) – 24 pts (22nd)

  • Raja (MOR) – 20 pts (23rd)

Both teams currently occupy the automatic relegation spots to League III and will need a strong turnaround to escape the drop zone.

Just above them, FC Midtjylland (DK) and Dalian Shide (CHN) are also struggling and cannot afford many more poor results.

📊 Key Notes After Round 29

  • Chankas CYC lead the league with both the most points and most goals scored.

  • The promotion race remains extremely tight, with only 5 points separating 1st from 5th.

  • The playoff battle is crowded, with multiple teams hovering near the cutoff.

  • The relegation fight is beginning to solidify, but there is still plenty of time in this 46-round season for teams to recover.

As the league heads into Round 30, the pressure continues to build at both ends of the table. The next few rounds could prove decisive in shaping the promotion contenders and determining who will be fighting for survival. ⚽📊
