League II 2026 Group D Round 27 Recap

League 2 – Group D

2026 Season – Round 27 Recap (46 Rounds Total)

With 27 matches completed, Group D has a clear leader — but the playoff battle behind them is intense. Relegation pressure is also mounting as we move into the final 19 rounds.

🔝 Automatic Promotion Spot (1st → World Premier League)

1️⃣ Banfield – 56 pts
Banfield take sole possession of first place and the automatic promotion spot. Their consistency and strong recent form keep them just ahead of the chasing pack.

🥈 Close Behind

2️⃣ Aston Villa – 55 pts
Only one point behind Banfield, Aston Villa remain in striking distance. One slip at the top could change everything.

3️⃣ Corinthians – 53 pts
Still very much alive in the promotion race, sitting just three points off 1st.

🎯 Playoff Zone (2nd–9th)

  1. Club Destroyers – 53 pts ⬆️

  2. Peñarol – 51 pts ⬇️

  3. Always Ready – 49 pts

  4. Guayaquil City – 49 pts

  5. FC Nantes – 42 pts ⬆️

  6. Bolton Wanderers – 42 pts ⬇️

The gap from 3rd to 9th is only 11 points, but more importantly, 8th and 9th are under pressure from below.

FC Nantes climb into 8th, while Bolton slip but remain in playoff position.

🏆 Qualification Spots

10️⃣ Unión La Calera – 39 pts
Holding the Friendly Cup position but just three points behind 9th. Playoffs are still within reach.

11️⃣ Al Masry – 39 pts
Currently in the King’s Cup slot, level on points with 10th and only separated by goal difference.

📉 Mid-Table & Lower Table Fight

  1. El Nacional – 38 pts

  2. Real Sociedad – 36 pts

  3. Atlético Osasuna – 33 pts

  4. FAR Rabat – 33 pts

  5. Alto Perú – 32 pts

  6. Al Mokawloon – 31 pts

  7. SV Meppen – 29 pts

  8. As Monza – 29 pts

  9. FSV Mainz 05 – 26 pts

  10. Bella Vista – 26 pts

  11. Rio Ave – 26 pts

This cluster is tight. A two-game swing could drastically change positioning in this section.

🚨 Relegation Zone (Bottom 2 → League III)

23️⃣ K.R.C. Genk – 16 pts
24️⃣ Canon Yaoundé – 11 pts

Canon are in deep trouble, with a significant goal difference deficit and just 11 points from 27 matches. Genk sit five points from safety but must improve quickly to avoid being cut adrift.

🔥 Key Storylines After Round 27

  • Banfield lead, but only by one point.

  • The top three are separated by just three points.

  • Only 3 points separate 9th from 11th, keeping the playoff race tense.

  • The relegation fight is beginning to narrow toward the bottom two — but 19 rounds remain.

Group D remains competitive at both ends. Round 28 could shake up the promotion race even further.
