League II 2026 Group C Round 29 Recap

League 2 – Group C

2026 Season – Round 29 Recap (of 46)

Round 29 has tightened the race at the top of Group C, while the battle for playoff spots and survival is becoming increasingly intense with 17 rounds remaining in the season.

🔝 Title Race / Automatic Promotion

The fight for the single automatic promotion spot to the World Premier League is extremely close.

1️⃣ Limón F.C. – 61 pts
Limón remain top of the table thanks to a strong run of form, winning their last four matches. Their superior goal difference keeps them ahead of second place.

2️⃣ Real Salt Lake – 61 pts
Level on points with the leaders but behind on goal difference, Real Salt Lake stay firmly in the promotion race despite slightly inconsistent recent results.

3️⃣ Cruzeiro – 59 pts
Only two points off first, Cruzeiro are still very much in contention for direct promotion and remain one of the strongest attacking teams in the league.

🎯 Playoff Zone (2nd–9th)

The playoff race is incredibly tight with several clubs fighting for positioning.

  1. Bayer Leverkusen – 56 pts

  2. Santos – 56 pts

  3. Vélez Sarsfield – 55 pts

  4. Tigre – 53 pts

  5. Toluca – 51 pts

  6. Twente – 48 pts

  • Leverkusen and Santos remain strong challengers for the top two.

  • Vélez and Tigre continue solid runs that keep them comfortably inside playoff places.

  • Toluca and Twente hold the final playoff spots but cannot relax yet.

⚠️ Just Outside the Playoffs

10️⃣ Everton – 48 pts
Everton currently occupy the Friendly Cup qualification spot, tied on points with Twente but losing the playoff position on tiebreakers.

11️⃣ Tottenham – 43 pts
Tottenham sit in the King’s Cup qualification spot, but their recent poor form (several losses) has slowed their push toward the playoff race.

Mid-Table Battle

These teams remain mathematically in the hunt but need strong runs to challenge higher positions:

  1. CF Montreal – 36 pts

  2. Toulouse – 35 pts

  3. Jocoro – 34 pts

  4. General Díaz – 33 pts

  5. Vitesse – 31 pts

  6. Braga – 31 pts

  7. Istres – 30 pts

A good streak could quickly push any of these teams into the cup qualification battle.

🚨 Relegation Fight

The lower half of the table is extremely congested.

  1. Forge – 28 pts

  2. CSKA Moscow – 28 pts

  3. Ajax – 28 pts

  4. Beijing Guoan – 28 pts

All four clubs are separated by goal difference only, meaning every point will be crucial in the coming rounds.

Relegation Zone

23️⃣ Numancia – 18 pts
24️⃣ Red Bull Bragantino – 14 pts

Both clubs are struggling and must improve quickly to avoid dropping to League III.

Key Takeaways after Round 29

  • Limón FC lead only on goal difference in the promotion race.

  • Three teams are within two points of first place.

  • The playoff line (9th–10th) is extremely tight.
