Copa Sudamericana 2026 Group E Recap

Group E of the 2026 Copa Sudamericana delivered one of the tightest qualification races in the tournament, with Cruzeiro ultimately finishing on top after a strong second half of the campaign. The Brazilian side collected 13 points from six matches, scoring 16 goals and conceding 11 to secure direct qualification to the Round of 16. The competition format sends only the group winner straight into the knockout stage, while the runner-up advances to the playoff round against teams dropping from the Copa Libertadores.

Cruzeiro’s campaign was built around consistency and big performances at home. Their emphatic 4–2 victory over FC Ka on Matchday 2 established them as early contenders, while a crucial 3–1 win over Red Bull Bragantino later in the group phase proved decisive in the race for first place. They finished strongly with a commanding 4–1 victory against Bahia on the final matchday to seal top spot.

FC Ka stayed competitive throughout the group and secured second place with 11 points after an impressive run of three wins, two draws, and just one defeat. Their strongest period came in the middle of the tournament, including an important 4–1 home win over Red Bull Bragantino and a dramatic 4–2 victory against Cruzeiro. Those results kept the group alive until the final week and earned them a place in the knockout playoffs.

Red Bull Bragantino showed flashes of attacking quality but struggled defensively in key moments. Draws against Bahia and FC Ka left them needing a strong finish, but they ended third with six points and narrowly missed qualification. Bahia, meanwhile, endured a disappointing campaign despite earning two draws against Bragantino. Defensive issues and missed opportunities left the Salvador club bottom of the standings with only two points.

Final Group E Standings

  1. Cruzeiro (BRA) – 13 pts
  2. FC Ka (BRA) – 11 pts
  3. Red Bull Bragantino (BRA) – 6 pts
  4. Bahia (BRA) – 2 pts

Cruzeiro now move into the Round of 16 carrying strong momentum and looking capable of making a deep continental run, while FC Ka prepare for the difficult playoff round against one of the third-placed teams from the Copa Libertadores. Group E proved how small the margins can be in South American competition, with several high-scoring clashes deciding the final outcome.
