League II 2026 Group A Round 39 Recap

League 2 – Group A | 2026 Season – Round 39 Recap

With just 7 rounds remaining in the 46-game season, the pressure is rising across every part of the table—from automatic promotion to the relegation fight. Here’s how things stand after Round 39:

🔝 Title Race & Promotion Battle

Vancouver Whitecaps FC remain firmly in control at the top with 88 points, continuing their dominant run. Despite a minor slip, they still hold a solid cushion and are closing in on automatic promotion to the World Premier League.

Right behind them, Chankas CYC (87 pts) are keeping the pressure on, refusing to let Vancouver pull away. Meanwhile, AC Milan (80 pts) stay in striking distance but may need near-perfect results to challenge for 1st.

Caracas FC (75 pts) and FC Copenhagen (73 pts) round out the top five, both comfortably positioned for the playoffs but still mathematically alive in the title race.

⚔️ Playoff Zone (2nd–9th)

The playoff race is intense, with several teams battling for seeding:

  • Atlético Indio (71 pts) holds 6th but must stay sharp.
  • Pachuca (70 pts) drops slightly but remains in contention.
  • Ajax (66 pts) and Fulham (63 pts) are holding onto playoff spots.

The gap between these teams is tight, meaning a couple of wins or losses could drastically shift positions.

🎯 Mid-Table Outcomes

  • Botafogo (62 pts) currently sits in 10th, securing a Friendly Cup spot—but they’re only one good run away from sneaking into the playoffs.
  • Fortaleza (60 pts) in 11th occupies the King’s Cup position, but they’ll need to fend off pressure from below.

⚠️ Lower Table Battle

From 12th to 20th, teams like Sol de América, Middlesbrough, and 2 de Mayo are still fighting to improve their standing and avoid slipping further.

However, the real concern lies just below:

  • Dalian Shide (35 pts) and Raja (33 pts) are dangerously close to the drop zone.
  • FC Midtjylland (32 pts) is barely hanging on.

🚨 Relegation Zone

Currently in the bottom two:

  • Tout Puissant Mazembe (31 pts)
  • Defence Force (19 pts)

Defence Force are in serious trouble, seemingly destined for relegation unless something drastic changes. Mazembe still has a fighting chance but must act fast with limited matches remaining.

🔥 Final Thoughts

  • Vancouver Whitecaps FC are within touching distance of promotion but can’t relax yet.
  • The playoff race (2nd–9th) is incredibly tight and unpredictable.
  • The mid-table teams still have something to fight for with cup qualifications on the line.
  • At the bottom, the relegation fight is heating up, especially for Mazembe.

With only 7 rounds left, every match from here on out is crucial—expect drama, surprises, and possibly some late-season heroics.
