League 2 – Group D | 2026 Season – Round 43 Recap
With only three rounds remaining in the 46-game season, the promotion race and playoff battle in League 2 Group D are reaching a dramatic climax. The fight at the top is extremely tight, while several clubs are still battling to secure postseason spots.
Title & Automatic Promotion Race
At the top of the table, Banfield (ARG) continues to hold 1st place with 85 points after 43 matches. Their strong run of form has allowed them to keep a slim advantage in the race for automatic promotion to the World Premier League.
Right behind them is Aston Villa (UK) with 84 points, just one point behind the leaders. With three matches left, the English side remains in prime position to steal the top spot if Banfield slips.
Club Destroyers (BOL) sits in 3rd place with 83 points, still very much alive in the promotion battle. A strong finish could see them leapfrog both Banfield and Aston Villa.
Not far behind, Always Ready (BOL) with 81 points keeps the pressure on the top three. While direct promotion may be difficult, they are already well positioned for the playoffs.
Playoff Zone (2nd–9th)
The playoff spots remain highly competitive:
- Corinthians (BRA) – 79 pts
- Guayaquil City (ECU) – 78 pts
- Peñarol (URU) – 75 pts
- El Nacional (ECU) – 67 pts
- Al Masry SC (EGY) – 67 pts
These teams currently hold the remaining playoff positions, but the battle is far from settled. With several clubs close in points, any slip could change the postseason picture.
Mid-Table Stakes
Just outside the playoff zone:
-
Bolton Wanderers (UK) – 67 pts (10th)
- Currently holding the Friendly Cup qualification spot.
-
Unión La Calera (CHI) – 65 pts (11th)
- Sitting in the King’s Cup qualification position.
Both teams are still close enough to challenge for the playoffs if results go their way in the final rounds.
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad (SPA) and FC Nantes (FRA) remain within striking distance but must make a late push if they hope to reach the top nine.
Lower Table Battle
Further down the standings, several clubs are trying to finish the season strongly to avoid ending near the bottom:
- Bella Vista (URU) – 60 pts
- Al Mokawloon (EGY) – 50 pts
- Atlético Osasuna (SPA) – 48 pts
- Alto Perú (URU) – 46 pts
- AS Monaco (FRA) – 45 pts
- FAR Rabat (MOR) – 44 pts
- Rio Ave (POR) – 44 pts
- SV Meppen (GER) – 42 pts
- FSV Mainz 05 (GER) – 42 pts
While safe from relegation, many of these clubs are fighting to climb the standings before the season ends.
Relegation Zone
The bottom of the table is now nearly settled:
- 23rd – K.R.C. Genk (BEL) – 37 pts
- 24th – Canon Yaoundé (CMR) – 17 pts
These two clubs currently occupy the relegation places to League III, and Canon Yaoundé in particular has endured a very difficult campaign.
